Do you hide your key under the flowerpot?  

It is such a common thing to hide a key outside nad most burgalars know this, I leave my spare with my neighbour that way I know it's safe

We are four in the family and all four of us got a key of our own. So it is not necessary for us to hide the key anywhere.

No I do not keep a spare keep outside anywhere. We come and go through the garage and have a garage door opener. But I guess the battery in could go dead and then I wouldn't be able to get in. Now that I think of it. I could probably leave a spare key at my neighbors house. She is a sweetheart and has watched our house many times when we have gone on vacation.

Yup, and I know that it is a security risk. I've been thinking of have a duplicate key for each household member so that we don't need to leave the key on the round table in our porch. That sure is a cute practice of keeping the house key. If an intruder comes, he can find the key at once. But still, we are doing it. But I am really bothered by this practice; I guess we have to devise a better plan to secure our house from intruders rather than hiding the key where the intruder is most likely to find.

I don't knoqw anyone that hides them outside. I have one
hidden for my kids when they drop by and I'm not home.
But it's not outside. I also keep a spare key in my car.

no i don't keep the key under anywhere else outside the house..i carry them with me on wherever i go..and i don't think people dont hide their keys under a flower pot, its just a movie thing..but i dunno maybe some do..we dont really know..its kinda risky to do that specially if people are already given the idea of keeping the keys on a certain area..anyway, keys are not that big and heavy to carry in your bag..

I know that most of my family members keep a spare key somewhere hidden outside.
I don't, but I don't lock our door either. We just shut our garage door that opens with a combination or with an opener when we are not home. This way, the inside door is always unlocked.
Funny that you should post this today because yesterday I couldn't get the garage door to close, so I had to search the house for a key so I could lock the door.

I do not hide my key under the flowerpot or anywhere outside my home,it is too dangerous doing this,it does not really matter if i forget to bring the key as i can wait for my brothers to come back.

I wish i could do that.
But in my country, no way...


I believe intruder nowadays are getting smarter and smarter. They will do some background research before they taking their actions (since they have so much of free time). They will observe when will u usually come back, is anybody home during weekend, how many people staying, any valuable stuff inside the house that worth breaking in..

It is sad to say that it really is a common practice here in New York. I know a few people that were robbed because they were clueless enough to think that hiding a spare key under a flowerpot or welcome mat was a good idea. I do not have a spare key but if I do ever get locked out again I can always have one of the woman upstairs lend me their keys and get into my apartment through a side door.
My cousin now has a keyguard mounted near her garage for when someone gets locked out. Her husband and I have locked ourselves out many times while watching the baby and climbing through the window was just not practical anymore because one of the cats always finds its way outside.
