San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom is banning buying bottle water from the cities departments. He says the water from the water Hetch Hetchy [reservoir]. He claims it is the most pristine water any where. More than a billon bottles end up I n the California landfills ever year. Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson is also banning the buying of bottles water from the city departments. Do yoou think that it is right for these mayors to do this? I think that he is being reasonable. If a person wants bottled water let them provide it for them selves. I drink the water from the tap and I think there are things much more dangerious than the tape water. I do buy bottled water for traveling or for when I am doing erronds but thats about it. One can alwasy get a water filter if they don't like the tape water.

I think that these mayors are doing a good thing because it cost a lot of money (in bottles, and transportation to get these bottled water to the shelves. Think of how much these trucks, plains and ships give off exhaust that are bad for the environment. Plus trying to take care of all of these bottles that are thrown out into the trash. The landfills are filling up very fast and the mayors are trying to keep them from over filling too fast.

And there is the wear and tear on the highways to transport the bottles of water. This bottled water probably is not aw good as the tap water. Why import something when you have good at home.

I buy distilled water at Walmart. I'll use tap water for making coffee and for boiling food, but for drinking water, it's only distilled. We live by the Dupont plant, and there's been much in the news in the last few years about the chemil C-8 in our water supplies. It causes cancer and sickness. I also use distilled water for our fishtank. We bought the water testing strips, and our tap water shows it's very hard water, with alot of alkaline in it. That's not good for goldfish. When I test the distilled water, it matches up perfectly with what the directions say is perfect water for the goldfish.

I also buy bottle water all the time from costco. In my family we use them in the car and almost all the time when we go out of the house.
If I understand well, these two mayors are banning bottle water because of the plastic bottles?
I don't know at what point that can be bad for us... But I think if they didn't exist it's easy to do without them. Like using one bottle that we fill out from the house (filtered water) and use that when we go outside. If that can save the environment why not. Have a nice day deebomb.

Thank you VoterAmie. The governer is not allowing the city government to buy bottled water fro the employees because the drinking water from the resavour is very clean and safe. And I do carry water from home but once in a while I do buy bottled water if I forget.

I have a good filtering system for my drinking water at home. It's worth it, as it's paid for itself in a short period of time over buying bottled water. We have well water, which sometimes has an off taste and smell, but the filter takes care of that. I do buy bottled water when I'm out, but I save the bottles and reuse them after washing them out. I fill them up with my own water, and I can't tell the difference.

Yes the Mayer could goo and buy water fillters for the city offices and have all the employees fill up their water bottles from the filtered water and that will save the landfills and gas plus wear and tear on the highways. They already have good water so why filter it? There is nothing wrong with the water they will be getting
