Well we actually have both. We have central a/c and heat but one room doesn't seem to get any. It was added on and the vent going there is crammed under the cieling so no air went through. We finally last year got a window unit for it. That room also gets warm year round, even in the winter I had to have the fan part of it run to keep it from getting stuffy. Overall we didn't see an increase in our bill from just it. Now with the a/c on right now it's been running around $240 but we've had days where we could turn it off. Come the next few months we can except prices going up to $400 a month. The electric company down here is not cheap. Even my one neighbor who is never home her bill runs close to $180 and we have 4 people who are always home. We have our central a/c set to 78 during the day and around 76 at night. I'd love it cooler but we can't afford it.

I can't even imagine paying that much! We live in an older house with the original central air. We keep the thermostat on about 75-80 and it costs us about $160 a month. We've added a window unit in the living room to help out. Would love to have the house cooler, but can't afford it.

Believe me I'm not looking forward to the bills this summer. We had one last year at $500 but we got rid of our deep freezer and that helped a lot. I'd love to have it cooler as well but until we get a new central a/c unit (ours is older) and insulation I don't think we can. By the way thank you for best response.

I have central heat and air in my home. In the summer the ac is kept around 74 and in the winter it's the same.

We have a reverse cycle airconditioner of 2 HP. It cools the family room, lounge room & kitchen. It is set in the wall, as our windows are not designed for air conditioners. Our electricity bill was expensive, about $380, but this is cheaper than some previous years. I am trying to save electricity. The thermostat is set on 22 degrees celcuis.

We have 2 window AC's, one each on the main and top floors. The main floor one, is 'an old beast,' and is quite powerful. It cools the downstairs nicely, and I turn it on and off throughout the day. The upstairs one, is a smaller unit, and I don't leave it running at night. I just run it 'some' during the day, to cool off the top floor. I don't run the downstairs one overnight either. Because I'm careful with these, the increase to our hydro during the summer, is minimal compared to some.

We have a window type of AC. We have around 4 AC in our house. These keeps our home cool during the heat of summer. Is is usually 4 feet from the floor.
