This will not be a very long post, I would just like to share a few words of wisdom that I discovered on a little plaque being sold at our local dollar store, which now hangs on my kitchen wall to be the first thing my husband sees each day as he walks through the door after work. The plaque reads: "Never Confuse Having A Career With Having A Life". A phrase to live by in a world where way too much emphasis is put on statuse and the all-mighty-dollar.

The emphasis is set by each and every one of us that have needs and wants. Some people need to have a career, and others just want a pay check. I for the better part of my life had a job I loved, so time and money were not on the top of the equation, My husband on the other hand believed that any sort of work was beneath his dignity, and sat on his butt and complained because I wasn't making enough to support him and my children, I usually made a few cents above minimum wage, the most I ever earned was $12 per hour. As a consequence I now get minimum disability pension. And he is still sitting on his butt complaining that he is not getting enough old age pension. if it weren't so sad it would be funny. But at least I got to work at something I loved to do.

No offence, but your husband sounds like a bit of a usless turd. My "words of wisdom" are not intended to downplay what people do achieve in thier work. Money is necessary, unfortunatly, for life. The point I am trying to make is for people who get stuck in your situation of haveing to work soooo hard to support thier familys and the ones who choose to work just to be rich and act as if they prefere thier jobs over thier families or home lives as well, is that you work to maintain your life but work should not be your life. You have to learn to let it go when you come home, to focus on things that you enjoy and to force the stresses of work out of you mind for a while. This is very hard for many people these days with the emphasis that media and society put on money and social statuse, they come home and instead of being able to enjoy what they have they sit there obsessing about problems at work, and how they don't make enough, and how someone else has a nicer car or some crap. Work to live, don't live to work. That's my message.

Usless turd, is a very mild thing to say about him. and I completely agree that a career, or job, should never come before home and family, as well what happens at work, stays there and what happens at home stays there as well. good discussion
