What age would you let your child sleep in a top bunk?

We are thinking about getting bunk beds. Possibly in another year, maybe a little less. I am not sure what age I would be comfortable with our son sleeping on the top bunk.

i really don't know, BUT, i know they make really nice rails that can go on that top bunk so the little dude doesn't fall out. shoot, if i was on a top bunk i might want a rail too! haha! :-D

I thought the same thing...lol. I think all bunk beds come with rails. We would definitely put them on.

I think that 3 or 4 is an okay age as long as the child is capable of climbing the ladder. My neighbor has a 4 year old that sleeps on the top bunk of their bunk beds and he does very well. he loves sleeping up there and it encourages him to go to bed each night. I guess every situation is different, but for them it works.
I would let them practice with the ladder and make sure that the side bar is high enough to where they can't roll off.

I would think around 5. But, make sure you have guard rails attatched in the beginning. Good luck.
