What Kind of Cat Carrier Do You Have?  email this discussion to a friend?

Do you have a plastic cat carrier, or one of those soft sided ones that are airplane ready? I had one of those soft sided ones and my larger cat broke it! Now I need to get a replacement carrier for her and wanted to know what kinds of carriers have worked the best for people. Thanks!

I have one of the soft sided ones and I actually feel it is easier overall. I don't feel so awkward when I am carrying it and I am not bumping into everything with it which I am sure my cat appreciates.

I think that I can answer your question: in fact we have had all the possible cat carriers for our persian cat!
When he was a kitty we bought a soft sided one which we were able to use till the age of 2-3 years, 'cause he broke it for his weight, even if, he -differently from his owners- has never been oversize!
Later on we bought a little metal cage, with a soft pad covering the aluminium basement.
This cage is very useful for long voyages in car (holidays and other occasions), but it is a bit too heavy for its transport to the veterinary and other things we do at hand.
Even more its handle is just a little piece of silicon-plastic which is not able to sustain the weight of our cat for long.
But we have two more options:
a naylon bag for cats which our persian cat Ashen likes a lot;
another carrier made entirely in plastic with a solid handle and an acceptable weight... it is just a bit too large and too long to go for a stroll with it.

In the end, I tell you myLot friend, that in the summer afternoons, when it is too hot to stay in a carrier or in a bag, when we want to take our petty cat with us, we put him the collar and the handle-chain and we take him simply on our shoulders! and he purrs and is very happy to see everything around him!

bye.

I have a large hard plastic pet taxi. I think it's for dogs. But, I have two cats and they have plenty of room when I put them in there together. I rarely use it though.

I have two different ones for each cat. One is a hard plastic one, lasts forever. I put a soft towel in there for him. The other is a cloth one with a zipper and lambs wool for her. When you purchase one, the most important factor is that the cat can stand up and turn around in it for the right size.

I have always used the hard plastic carriers. We have a dog-size one for our larger cat.

They hold up to most anything and are easy to clean. You can put an old towel or bathmat in it for cushioning. If they can handle being shipped from overseas, I figure my cats will be safe from anything...LOL

Some also have a place to keep leashes,collars and vet papers. Then everything you need would be in one place.

My cats share a large plastic cat carrier at present, but I have to get a second one as they will shortly be shipped overseas as we are moving to another country, so I'll be getting another plastic carrier thats airline approved. As unfortunately they can't share anymore as they are just to big and not to mention getting heavy to carry both in the same box :)
