Max and Cord are coming back, of goodness how long as it been since we have seen either one of these Buchanan's? I wonder if Kelly will come back with Kevin, is that her name? she was played by Heather Tom the last time.

The show won't be the same without him. Asa really brought life to the show. Sorry to see him leave. I haven't been able to watch it since 2001 when I moved to the UK. I wonder if our US soaps are available somewhere on the net to watch?

I haven't watched this show in ages, lol. Gee, I'll have to tune in and catch up on this part of the storyline. So, is the guy that played Asa now off the show for good? (Did he quit, or did he die in real life or something? Enquiring minds want to know!!) Will have to keep tuned to this discussion to read more.

This is the discussion I started when he was having contract issues:

They have just been referring to him as being upstairs sick in bed lately.

Philip Carey (born July 15, 1925, although some reports listed his birth year as 1935) is an American actor.
Carey has made appearances in films such as This Woman is Dangerous with Joan Crawford (1952) Calamity Jane (1953), Pushover (1954) and Monster (1979). Carey also had roles on the TV series Laredo and Little House on the Prairie.
He is perhaps best known for his role as the protective Texan patriarch Asa Buchanan on the ABC soap opera, One Life to Live, a role he has played since 1980. Before that, Carey also played Steve, a drinking buddy of Archie Bunker on an early memorable episode of All in the Family.
Carey became well-known for a series of tongue-in-cheek television commercials for Granny Goose potato chips, in which he self-identified as "Granny Goose", portraying the company's spokesperson as a tough cowboy.
Carey was diagnosed with lung cancer in January 2006, and underwent chemotherapy. Carey was absent from One Life to Live for much of 2006 as a result.
In late March 2007, it was announced that Carey would be exiting the show after nearly thirty years. Carey turned down an offer to go to recurrring status with the show. He last aired on April 26, 2007.

Wow! Thanks for sharing that, now I'm back up to speed on it. (I couldn't remember the name Philip Carey for the life of me, lol) The last time I tuned in was while he was absent from the show in 06, and I do remember reading in the paper that he had cancer. (That's why I wondered if he passed on or something.) He's been on OLTL for so long! He had some real interesting story lines along the way. Gee, I also remember when he played that part on Archie Bunker. Thanks for sharing!

Yep, that sounds like a good twist and I bet no one was expecting this one at all. Soap operas are just cool like that sometimes.
