Why Collect things ?

actually I am not collecting things but I did a long time ago, I liked to collect toy cars and some cards and stamp but I quit collection things.

I used to collect Ty stuffed animals. They were a very saught after toy. They went up in price. Then one day the owner of the Ty company decided not to make any more which made the bottom fall out of the market and the collectability of the stuffed animal went way down. I have tons of Ty stuffed animals that are now worth nothing. I also collect John Wayne movies because I love old westerns. I collect tons of things and my husband calls me a pact rat. I collect Barbie ornaments that are put out by Hallmark every year. My husband only collects the star trek ornaments by Hallmark. My daughter has a book collection. She collects books written by Nora Roberts. She also collects all the Harry Potter Books and movies. My house is full of junk. I think we collect things that we like. I am not sure why I have collected all this stuff. At least my daughter reads her books over and over again so that is not a waste. I put up a christmas tree every year full of star trek ornaments for my husband. So I guess some of the stuff is getting used.

Different people have different reasons for collecting and hoarding things. Maybe one goes for a holiday and collects knick-knacks from there. Such items remind one of the nice time spent on a holiday. Some people like to keep things are mementos of old days spent at schools, colleges or workplace. Some things are kept as a mark of respect to departed family members, and yet there are homemakers like my mom-in-law, who saves anything and everything for future use. Nothing in our house goes to the wastepaper-basket. Empty jars, bottles, old newspapers, my son’s discarded games, teddies, old utensils and worn-out clothes. She hoards everything and many times she has just fished out the perfect accompaniment to a problematic gadget from her cupboard. She is a perfect packrat!

As a child I used to collect stamps but now I like to collect software programs - my computer is full of different programs that I may not use anytime like e-card generator,photomorpher etc.

I am a collector, shoes, handbags, clothes, nick nacks, I just love lots of things to choose from when I need to get dressed up to go out, I love having nice things around me, I spend a lot of time at home so I guess I make my home my own little world and have the sort of things around me that make me happy.
