MyLot discussion are supposed to be a free expression of free ideas, right. No matter how much you agree with, or disagree with those ideas. Discussion my angrier you, mak you laugh, or even make you think. You can respond, respond, and re-respond. You can defend your position or leave it alone. Why does it seem that when you start defending your position with facts, people respond back at you with insults. Your ignorant, you show your lack of intelligence, your a racist, your a begot, and my favorite Bush lied, Bush lied, oh did I mention Bush lied. I try to us facts, I do not try to us insult. I do not mine being a lighting lod, but if you can't defend your position any better than insults who has won?

Shut up, idiot. I mean... you are totally right. Sometimes when a person feels backed into a corner (because they know they are wrong) they try to bully the other person to gain control of the argument. It doesn't work and just makes them look ignorant.

I share your opinion entirely on this point, disagreement should not be cause for a lack of civility.
I have disagreed with many points made in discussions here but have never allowed myself to be offensive or discourteous. I have also had responses to discussions of mine where the respondant has completely disagreed with me but has done so in a civil manner. Quite a few times I have received excellent responses that disagree with me, which I appreciate the value of irrespective of the opposing opinion.
Sadly, there shall always be people who cannot disagree without being offensive and insulting, so I tend to simply ignore the fact.

Sometimes, people who do name-callings tend to have a lower self esteem. And since you can be some anonymous person in the Internet, that's probably the best way to act tough and rude. I was recently involved in a misunderstanding over some copyrighted stuffs. The owner of the cartoons decided to discuss about it on a local forum and I never got to told my side of the story. So now, everyone on the forum resorted to calling my names like stup1d, id1ot, thief, b1tch, mor0n and stuffs like that. The best way is to just ignore it. Besides, what can you do about it? The name-caller might just deny everything and most possible delete off that particular comment and act blur. Besides, it's just a waste of time explaining facts and reasons to a bunch of people who might not even be bothered to find out exactly what is wrong, what has gone wrong or what is happening. And if people can't be bothered to find out what happened in the first place before making judgment and accusations, you're really better off not responding to their insults at all. Name callers can kiss my A$$!
