if i only use my TV to view DVDs and VCDs, and it is not hooked up to any antenna...except for the DVD player and a five point sound system... can siam paying for the license or not darn it!!! the TV shows are so crap of late, it is not even worth the effort to channel surf...and we got to pay license, on top of subscription for watching it hmm...they use to justify the license as revenue for documentary and public awareness programs... for those who watch TV, other than the news programs, what other documentary are there on the local channels (SCV Discovery channel do not count! )

i wish can don't have to pay tv licence as well. but the problem is they actually stipulate that as long as you have something that is capable of receiving broadcast. the tv licence is bua siam one loh. there is one way if you really want to siam. get a lcd monitor to watch your dvds loh. lcd monitor is not capable of receiving broadcast mah, so no need to pay tv licence loh.

really? LCD cannot receive broadcast? Most of the LCD TV today are capable of receiving broadcast leh... you see them in the papers everyday. Are you referring to those that are used by the computers? The largest computer screen I know that is LCD is only 22" leh. What if I own a projector, is it considered as a TV as well?

lcd monitors lah, those used to connect to pc one. think the biggest they go is 32", but the price is compatible to lcd tv. not very sure of projector is capable of receiving broadcast. maybe you can send an email to iras to check it out. i believe more and more people are unwilling to pay the licence fee due to the poor quality of the programmes. :(

haha... think quite hard to evade paying for licence lah... anyway, news is quite worth watching? the thing i can't stand is the SCV sports subscription increasing. think you mentioned that you're not a football fan right? my hubs is, and he's got to stomach the 60% increase in subscription... sigh.

well, we can get the news off the web. What i cannot stand is the way the programs are scheduled. Most of the good serials (english) are put at some crazy witching hour. Most of them are re-runs. yeah, you are right, I am not a major sports fan. During the prime time on saturdays and sundays, especially in the mornings where we want to spend a lazy day doing nothing but watch TV, we get crappy shows. It is worst when it comes to major sports events like the soccer world cup or the golf championships. You get about 3-4 hours of either the game itself or the highlights of the whole season and then some! And the whole game either repeats during the night or some of the prime time on the week days! Can you imagine, turning on your TV on a sunday morning, and all you see are a bunch of people in long pants and a cap, spending minutes of precious air time walking down long stretches of green just to find a small little white ball. And when they finally do, what they do? They take out their expensive titanium sticks and whack the ball to some far-away green again. And the whole process repeats. Some sports are only good if you are playing them. Not when you are watching them over TV. It is a torture, I tell you! End up we rarely watch TV. Most of the time it is either DVDs or rentals. So I find it ridiculous to have to pay for a TV license when we dun watch public broadcast.
