Well for depression, medicines are not solution. Do Meditation, try breathing exercise, it will help you balance and handle depression.

When I finally found a doctor who took me seriouly and helped me do something about my back and leg pain, my depression just went away! I have 3 bad lumbar discs... I had the steroid shots, then was given a pain med to take every 6 hours. It keeps the edge off the pain so that I can function in my home and get out occasionally. I really hope you don't have to do this for long... there's not much future in being an old-timer when it comes to pain!

I've had Fibromyalgia, Chronic pain, Chronic Fatigue, and Hypoglycemia for over 20 years now. I finally went into depression, but didn't want to accept it. Once I did, I went to see a Psycologist who then told me to see the Psychiatrist. After many years of dealing with pain, I think many people end up depressed. I was prescribed Cymbalta and think it's wonderful. Not only does it help depression, but it helps with aches and pains, as well as anxiety. Good luck to you. I hope you get better.

Normally I would suggest exercise but since your knees are your problem it might not be possible. I have fibromyalgia and my legs are my biggest pain. But I find walking helps my pain and my emotional well being, especially on beautiful sunny days... or even on cold winter days. Exercise releases chemicals in the brain that helps you feel more emotionally uplifted. Is there any way you can get out for even a short walk? Also, I know I cannot live without my anti-depressants. Having not felt real depression in awhile I decided to try and go off my anti-depressants. I tried on two occasions very unsuccessfully. I need the anti-depressants. They definitely help. Another idea is to find a hobby, something you love. It took me a few years into my illness to realize that my inability to work outside the home opened the door for me to pursue my love for writing and my dream to be a published author. Getting involved in something you love can take your mind off your pain. Good luck!
