A Poem For My Mother

I have been asked about some here on MyLot about my poetry, so I decided to share one with you. I wrote this in honor of my mother who passed away on February 9th, 3 days after her 85th birthday:
OUR MOTHER
Thanks for the memories, Mother dear,
I know you could not stay.
You often spoke of that Better Place
That you would see someday.
Your journey has been long
And I know you had grown
Weary from Life's tasks.
You gave so much/with a mother's touch,
So all that we could ask
Is to cherish your memory
And honor your name;
To hold you close in our hearts.
For we'll all be together
In that Great Forever;
You are our Eternal Flame.

Worldwise, what a beautiful tribute to your Mom (and to all Moms). My condolences to you on the passing of your mom. I lost mine in 1999 and still feel so lost without her around daily. She lived with my husband and me for 19 years, and she will always be missed by us, as well as all other family members.

Yes, I'm sure many of us do that, and it always reminds us of our moms saying the same thing. I'm happy to have so many good memories of her time living with us. She was a very special lady.

Thank you so much, claudia. It makes me feel good that someone other than myself can derive some pleasure from my poem. I am sorry for your loss as well. I am still missing my mother very much as it has not been so long since she passed, but I get a kick out of remembering all of our conversations over the years. She used to say some of the funniest things and now I find myself using many of her expressions.

Thank you, Shaun. The writing of it was very theraputic for me. It made me feel that I was telling her all that was in my heart.

What a beautiful poem my friend - I really do thank you for sharing it! It really describes what many of us will feel about our mothers when they are no longer with us! I think you have a lovely talent there worldwise and you shoul let it out for all to see! xxx
