Got a quarter? |
|
Police in Washington, DC have arrested a hotdog vendor for defrauding the city! It seems that several construction workers were paying this guy to put quarters into the parking meters to keep their car from being towed. Instead, he was using a quarter that was attached to a string. He put in the quarter, then pulled it back up after the time was put on the meter!
Police got suspicious when the meter funds went down in that section of the city and set up serveilance video.

carpenter5 (1853) | 3 years ago | I am too an honest person. I first off, didn't know you could do this, and 2nd of all wouldn't have the nerve to even try it. I don't want to go to jail over 25 cents! Can you imagine having to explain that to your family. "I stole meter money from a couple of construction guys."

carpenter5 (1853) | 3 years ago | My kids and I love to watch "world's stupidest criminals." I don't think I've seen this story, but I think that he definately makes it wouldn't you think? It's actually kind of sad to think that he was that desperate for money that he had to steal quarters.

carpenter5 (1853) | 3 years ago | You'd think that when they emptied the meter, they'd see the string? I don't know maybe it comes completely out. I can't see how it kept from getting hung up in the mechanics of the machine. This world is crazier and crazier with each passing day.

carpenter5 (1853) | 3 years ago | Guess that may be where this man got the idea! I about died from laughing the first time I heard it. Then I just got to feeling sorry for the guy that he felt the need to steal such a little amount of money? ANd for what food for his kids maybe? Sad really.

5. Willowlady (8982) | 3 years ago | Ingenius but wrong. Such a shame that the workers have to pay to park for work anyway. Glad that this guy got caught. His greed got him in trouble. Surveillance is being used more, so anyone with the potential for being like this take care, you will get caught. One good use for this type of technology.

carpenter5 (1853) | 3 years ago | I agree. My husband worked at a large hospital. In order to not have to park more than 2 miles away and ride a shuttle bus, he had to pay so much per month to park in the parking garage. The lot where you could park for free wasn't in a good neighborhood and it was at a stadium, so if there was anything going on that day, they had to move their cars and find somewhere else to park!

6. mi2ok02 (285) | 3 years ago | Ouch! The man with the quarter on the string should be prosecuted but also the workers who were paying him because they are accomplices to a crime. Shame on all of them!

carpenter5 (1853) | 3 years ago | The workers who were paying him were giving him real money to put into the meters. He was stealing there money and using his fake money to make their parking meters run. It's a wonder they didn't get their cars towed. I'd have been furious if I was paying someone to watch my car meter and instead he was pocketing the money and my car was towed!

7. danishcanadian (20201) | 2 years ago | Wow!! That's something I would have never thought of, but alas he did get caught, so I'd better not think of it.*laughing, just kidding MyLot, I wouldn't do that* It takes a (somewhat) smart person to think of a scheme like that. Amazing how stupid ideas can have clever elements to them. LOL LOL
