Has anyone heard of or experienced getting hives from Niacin?

One of the compounded supplements I am taking to help with some of the symptoms of fibromyalgia has high amounts of niacin in it. Three times now I have gotten a niacin "flush" which ended up triggering hives all over my body for the best part of a day. Has anyone else had this kind of experience, or heard of such a thing?

I have fibromyalgia and I took Niacin to help stop the ringing in my ears. Somewhere (on the bottle?) I read that one would feel hot and flushed after taking it. I got so flushed and hot that I couldn't let anybody touch me. Then I was in the washroom flushing it out at both ends. I was scared and called 911. The doctor at the ER said the reason I had a reaction so Niacin was because my body didn't need anymore of it, that it was getting enough, so it was rejecting it. I wouldn't take Niacin again no matter what!
You do have to be careful with some supplements. This was the most extreme reaction I have ever had to a supplement. You might want to second think taking Niacin if you are having a reaction. You probably don't need it.

I think you're right. I'm personally going to stay away from it. I didn't like having hives all over my body and coughing all day because I had them in my throat, too. Nasty! It is good to get confirmation that someone else with FMS also had trouble with niacin. Thanks for responding. :)
