Diet soda and heart disease

I was reading about a study that said those who drink diet soda are also at risk for heart disease. The researchers don't know whether diet soda causes a person to crave more sweets, which would neutralize the sugar-free zero calorie aspect or if people who drink diet soda still eat unhealthy. I think I remember reading or hearing a comedian say, "A Big Mac, Super-sized fries, and a diet Coke." My vote goes for the general unhealthy food choices we (Americans) make. I drink non-sweetened iced tea with all my meals, which I believe is healthier than soda, but yet, along with that beverage, I'll still have a Whopper with large fries at Burger King.

Is there any corelation between heart disease and diet soda?

I don't think there is a direct corelation between heart disease and diet soda. From what I've read, the researchers have a couple of possible theories, 1. that the diet sodas make a person crave more sweets, thus causing a person to eat more, 2. Switching to diet soda does not lower heart disease risk if the person continues to eat fatty and greasy foods with it, like a quarter pound hamburger and large sized french fries.
