I've had a few really awesome days gathering wild and gardened foods this summer. Yesterday was incredible. The plants I found on my friend's property included, yarrow, sorrel, raspberries, blackberries, black-eyed Susans, daisies, large dock, yellow dock, St. John's Wort, chives, and a variety of thistles. The day was just the right temperature outdoors and in.
On my own property, I've found speed-well, heal-all, roses, Mother Wort, jewel weed, and various clovers.
I think heaven should be wondering fields and seeing all the beauty that's around you. Yesterday, was like that.
Are there any other gatherers, foragers, and wild-crafters out there? How has your Spring and Summer been? What have you been finding? Any new plants? Some years, that are dry, I find purslaine, but this year is wet, so I'm finding water-loving plants in my area.

I just started my new hobby gardening and I have planted some seeds in our backyard. Not all of them grow, I guess I need to add more fertilizer. My husband and I water it regularly and some grow really nice already. So now we know what to do next year.
There was a time when I used to gather gardened foods, at the time someone has a garden nearby and always gave us tomatoes, lettuce, asparagus etc and kept inviting us to just help ourselves. really nice person.

Thank you very much for responding. What kind of seeds have you planted? Do you know if your soil is acid or base? Is it sandy or does it have clay? Sometimes the kinds of weeds you have can tell you a little bit about the soil, too.
Compost makes excellent fertilizer and it's free. I love what it did for my herbs.
During the time that you used to gather garden foods, what kinds of foods did you gather? Nice neighbor, for sure, tomatoes, lettuce and asparagus.

yup they have a garden full of those that you find at the grocery store so they always end up telling people to take theirs instead of buying at the grocery. My husband and I used to get parsley, tomato, asparagus, lettuce.
all we know about our soil is that it needs fertilizer and so we got bags and bags of it. we only got herbs right now and they grew nicely, we would have the small section of the backyard full of them if only the squirrels didn't steal some :( anyway next year we'll grow a lot more.
thanks for BR!
