Are you going to fine dine?

Today my mom and I drove a couple hundred miles to take my grandpa, her dad, out to lunch. He is about to turn 71. So we told him we would take him anywhere he wanted to go, he could choose any place. Well, he chose Applebee's. What about you? If someone said you could choose to eat any restaurant, which place would you pick? Would it be a fine dining experience? Or are you more comfortable eating at the old trusty places? I would choose a restaurant called Apple Wood's. They have the best apple fritters, and I haven't been there in over a decade.

Okay--I'm going to be completely decadent...LOL...Just once I would love to one of the top restaurants in Manhanttan NY---My mom used to know this guy where she worked...this was years ago, who would ONLY go to the French restaurant, Le Cirque... Here's a link to it: http://www.lecirque.com/index2.htm The other place, none other than the famous Rainbow Room where a dinner can cost a mere $200 per person http://www.rainbowroom.com/rainbow_room.htm Each link by the way has a menu you can look at..holy moly...!!!

Thanks for the links! I have always wanted to go to the Rainbow Room. I've always wanted to go to New York. I wanted to see a Broadway show, go to Bloomingdale's even though I can't buy anything. Those restaurants just sound so elegant. I think I'll be dreaming of their menus, even though I had no idea what some items were, LOL.

If it costs $200.00, I could eat it! The resturant sounds wonderful.

Well, Amber, it depends on how strong I am. I like to take care of my health. However, a lot of what I really like has some drawbacks in the health area with too much fat or salt or whatever. Most likely, I would choose Masala Bistro which is an Indian restaurant and they have the best food! That was nice what you did for your grandfather. You are my kind of person!

I'm glad I'm someone's kind of person. : ) I have a friend who has been asking me to go with him to an Indian restaurant nearby. Our schedules just haven't meshed so far. He says I'm the only one he knows will eat Indian food with him. I've never tried it, but I have been told to stay away from curry.

He is wrong. You are not the only person who will go to an Indian restaurant with him. I will! I love the vegetable biryani. That is the best. Onion and garlic naan which is bread is delicious. Palak Paneer is good...that has spinach in it and that is vegetarian. I like the samosa that are vegetarian...for dessert, either the rose ice cream or the carrot halva. You are set to go!

I would first decide on how much I think the person making the offer could afford to spend. Then I would pick a restaurant according to their ability to pay.

I would prefer not to be the person doing the choosing especially if I am not paying for it. If I am giving the treat and am asked to choose the place, then it would be place that I know will suit the palates of my guests. Unless I do not know about the tastebuds of my guests, they shall have the honour to choose.

I do the same. I don't want to choose something not everyone would enjoy. But in this discussion I suspended all thoughts of consideration, LOL. Because the place I picked would be too expensive for me to pick with a clean conscience in real life.

I am sure your parents will understand even if you tell them the place you really wish you could bring them to :)

I would pick someplace I don't get to go to often, like the Melting Pot, it's a fondue restaurant that's kind of expensive but a lot of fun, or a good sushi place. My husband doesn't care for those places, so I hardly ever get to go.

It would depend on if they are paying. If they were paying,I would want to go to Red Lobster or Golden China. If I was paying we'd have to stay home because Iam broke.

Nope, it is on them. They ask you where you want to go, and it can be anywhere. If you went to Red Lobster would you order the lobster? And since this is make believe, I would make believe my friends could afford that, LOL.

I would choose the Windy Point resturant. It is up very high in the Adelaide Hills & there is a fantastic view from the windows. The food apparently is magnificant. I would love to dine there with my husband, having a window table. Candlelights & dancing would make this a wonderful evening.

That sounds great! I don't think I have eaten some place where the view was so fantastic. Maybe once on a river.

I would probably choose my local Mexican restaurant. They have the greatest vegetarian selections, and great cheese dip. I have dined in some dives, and have have dined in some of the finest restaurants in NYC, and frankly, I would rather just dine where the prices are reasonable and I can dress casually. All the rest to me is just a bunch of hype! I would rather put the extra money I would spend on fine dining, into a savings account. I hope your grandpa has an excellent birthday!

Oh, thanks. I want it to be really good for him. He isn't in the best of health. : ) Sometimes the best places to eat are the ones without any pretense, that we visit all the time.

.....the best is beach or lake side dining place. If there is no beach or lake, just enough somewhere around the backyard.......a nostalgic dining place.

I don't do fine dining. Family type restaurant works best plus its within my family's budget. Don't have time to sit and enjoy my taste palette.
