I know we all hear about some prison abuse, and we all argue for and against how much rights prisoners should get since after all, they are in prison for a reason...but refusing to take a woman giving birth to the hospital? She screamed for 3 hours for help before she gave birth on the floor of her cell. When she held the baby up to the cameras they finally came to help her. A guard cut the umbilical cord with her fingernails! Now the woman is suing the county prison. This is just amazing!

Unbelievable!! I wouldn't be surprised if she sued the prison and got out early. Years ago a friend was in Prison in Michigan...he got an ingrown toenail that became infected...He asked several times to go to the infirmary...finally a couple guards took him down to the laundry area, held him down and pulled the nail off with a pair of plyers. He sued and they ended up letting him out if he would drop the case.

Now this is unbelievable! That constitutes torture! No wonder we hear about bad prisons and needed prison reform.

That is the most disgusting story I have ever read , had the guards no compassion at all? we leave only 2 miles from Scotland's only all women prison , I have heard of the women having handcuffs on while they are delivering their babies and I thought that was barbaric enough but how that women was treated was just inhuman , I would really like to know how this story ends xx

The treatment this woman received (or actually didn't receive) should be investigated and action taken against the guards and those involved. She should have been taken to the hospital when it was evident that she was giving birth. She's lucky she only had 3-4 hours of labor...mine was over 15 hours. Those guards should lose their jobs at the very least.

That's just outrageous! Sure there may be people crying wolf, but there's just no excuse for this. Some people are such criminals that they don't deserve anything. There are people that have been wrongfully convicted, or their being made an example for something petty. It wouldn't of taken much time to check on this woman. Then for the guard to use fingernails to cut the umbilical cord is just so wrong. That's the dirtiest part of one's body! That baby did nothing wrong for someone to treat the beginning of their existence this way. What about infection?
These people may be dealing with some of the worst of human kind, but they still have a job to do and they shouldn't be above the law.

I think it is just awful what she went through.. She deserved better treatment, especially since she was pregnant...I can't imagine no one wanting to help her..

Lots of inmates do things for attention and so perhaps the jail was hardened to her cries. I thought that medical care was a benefit that all inmates had great advanatage of while law abiding citizens do without.
Tis great that she only had 3 hours of labor. I hope whatever is right comes of this situation.

That is just criminal. They could have at least come by her cell and probably seen that her water broke. I would assume there was some sort of puddle on the floor.
That guard must have had some pretty sharp fingernails! That sounds dangerous. What did she clamp the cord with, her bubblegum?
This is a terrible example of negligence. The prisoner will probably win alot of money and be set for life when she is finally released.

This a classic, "Don't get mad, get a good lawyer" case.I hope she gets a lot of money and if she wasn't in for murder, that she gets out of jail and gets to keep her baby.

It's hard to believe that this could happen - even to someone in a prison cell. Sure, they are in prison for a reason, but they are still human beings with certain rights, and to leave this woman alone to give birth on her own was just calous and pointless. The prison authorities should be ashamed of themselves on this occasion, and I hope this woman is successful in suing them.

Personally, there are those who are faking, and there are those who are FOR REAL!! and this lady was clearly in labor and had the baby right there in the prison. I don't know how she could have screamed as long as she did. I cannot even imagine it and wont. I just feel bad that no one cared enough to make this woman get the medical attention she needed. I hope she gets what she deserves.

If this story is proved to be true it amounts to cruel and inhumane treatment. I know that she was a prisoner, but she is no less a human being. If they are going to incarcerate pregnant women then they should provide every medical procedure that is called for. Shame on these people.

Here in the uk it seems as though prisoners have more rights than their victims ever do but to leave a woman in this type of pain and to endanger an innocent baby in this way is unpardonable and a terrible abuse! For once I feel that this prisoner is in the right! xxx

If you do not like your job then get out of it. Those prision guards need to lose their jobs and maybe face jail time their selves. Yes I know the the women was in prision but she is still a human and she needed to go to the hospial. I have seen nurses how do not listen to patients. I have seen bad things happend to patients when nurses ignore patients, even the ones who cry wolf all the time. It is hard to know when the cry of wolf is real. This time for the prision guards it was real.
