Do you have an interview "outfit"? email this discussion to a friend?

Well, we've already established in one of my earlier discussions that most people hate interviews, but the sad fact is that it is still happening and it's a part of life and looking for jobs.
So I'm sure all of you would have been to some interviews.
So do you always wear different clothes, or do you have one special interview outfit, we're talking about first interviews here.
Do you have a special outfit that you think looks professional, and you wear it over and over again to interviews? Or do you have a lucky outfit that you like to wear, but then if you have to wear it a lot, then it's hardly a lucky outfit, right?Well, I got my interview outfit, I don't really believe in the lucky part. But at least it looks good and professional.
It's a pair of black pinstripe trousers, with a nice crisp, white shirt with black stripes along it. Recently I've added a grey and black waistcoat to that outfit, since they're really in, and it's too hot here to wear a jacket. 42 degrees today.
Well, anyway, that's what I wore to an interview yesterday, and to an interview some weeks back. I did get a job then too, but it was too less pay and too much timings, this one seems better, if I get it. I hope I do, well, I'm expecting a call in 2 or 3 days, so wish me luck.
And until then, tell me if you have an "interview outfit" of your own. If so, what is it like?

Something like my interview outfit

I do have a interview outfit as it consists of a white button down long sleeve shirt, numerous solid ties, a black sports jacket, black dress pants, nice dress socks and dress shoes. You definitely want to dress nice and impress the interviews. "Dress to Impress" is what is commonly known. It does not matter what type of job as the employer will be impressed that you took the time to look nice. I have other shirts and pants that I could use as well. Having a nice dress belt for the pants is good too.

Sounds like you've got a whole wardrobe of interview outfits. Yeah, true you have to dress to impress in interviews as it's all about first impressions there.

Yeah, well I did make a good impression, but I don't think I'm gonna get that job, due to some legal stuff.
Too bad, anyway, there will be other opportunities.

Yes if ever you can go to a job that doesnt need an interview its very nice but its not happening that way. All jobs need an interview. Well if i will going for an interview usually i will wear a slacks and a blouse that is looks formal and clean. Some work offices likes to see you beautiful or attractive so you need to see to it that you are one of of them. The color of your outfit must be not too light and not too dark. Thats what i am thinking but i dont know really the exact way of clothing but formal clothes is enough for me.

Well, I guess colors make a difference, a nice combination of black and white can always be a winner, I think.

Hi Vega~ good luck on your interview.
I am not recently looking for a job, but year back I did have an interview outfit. It was a red skirt/jacket. I have always heard that red is a power color, so I would always wear this red outfit to interviews.
Your outfit sounds very professional... I think that that is really all that matters. The interviewers are looking for people who are neat, clean, knowledgeable and professional.

myLot reputation of 98/100. vega83 (1408)   ranked 245 out of 25,812 in people  1 year ago

Thanks for the good wishes. Unfortunately I didn't get the job due to some legal issues, anyway there'll be more opportunities, and my interview outfit will be working a lot now, ha ha. I like your suggestion about the red, and come to think of it, I don't have any red in my outfit.

Even though I am not currently look for a job and haven't for 10 years, I do have my interview outfit in the closet, LOL. I have a special outfit that I change out so often to keep up with the times, that just in case something should come up like an interview, I will be ready for. I think it's important to look your best especially with first impressions, you know?

myLot reputation of 98/100. vega83 (1408)   ranked 245 out of 25,812 in people  1 year ago

That's nice, so you have an outfit that's always "in", so tell me is that like the untouchable interview outfit or do you wear parts of it anyway?

A big portion of my job is to give interviews. So I have been on both sides of the issue (I've been the interviewer and the interviewee..).
I think this is a great discussion because it stresses how important appearance is in the interview process. You would be surpised at how many people still don't really think about that. it's the easiest part of your interview, showing up and looking polished and professional. I know it's not fair to judge a book by it's cover, but unfortunately in the interview process that happens often.
That said, my interview outfit is a black taliored pants suit. It's pretty classic so it's timeless and has lasted me a few years. I usually wear a white shirt with it and some small jewelry.
Good luck Vega, I hope you get your call.

myLot reputation of 98/100. vega83 (1408)   ranked 245 out of 25,812 in people  1 year ago

Yeah, of course a first impression is so important in an interview because that is also your last impression. Well, I know from sources that I'm not going to get the job, as there are some legal issues. But thanks for the good wishes, maybe they will come in handy for my next job interview.

I don't have a specific interview outfit because in the past ten years, I've only been on two "interviews" (one was only a technicality, though I still dressed up). I tend to go with a nice jacket and blouse, and then either a skirt or pants, depending on the weather and which seems more appropriate.

For my last interview, I wore a dark tan colored shirt with a long black jacket and a pair of black satiny pants that are often mistaken for a long skirt. It looks very elegant, and it's surprisingly comfortable. I think those two things are what I try for in an interview outfit--elegance and comfort. That way, it helps you to look and feel good.:)

myLot reputation of 98/100. vega83 (1408)   ranked 245 out of 25,812 in people  1 year ago

That does sound elegant, and trendy too. You've got a nice interview outfit, I like that idea. I love long jackets too, they're so fashionable, but don't get a chance to wear them, it would look really stupid walking around with a long jacket when it's 45 degrees out. But I do get my chance in winter.

First of all I wish good luck for success in your interview. During my life I changed my employment 18 times that means I attended many interviews at a different time. Not even single I put any interview outfit. This is first time I am hearing interview outfit from you. Further not even single interviewer asked for my testimonials or certificate. After talking to them, they just offered me job in all 18 cases.

myLot reputation of 98/100. vega83 (1408)   ranked 245 out of 25,812 in people  1 year ago

Well, the interview outfit is not really a must, what I meant was if you have allocated a special shirt of trousers for interviews, something that looks professional and makes a good impression. The term "interview outfit" is my own, maybe that's why you've never heard of it before.

9. myLot reputation of 99/100. whyaskq (4262)   ranked 39 out of 25,812 in people   1 year ago

So far, I have not attended any interviews after I got myself rooted to a permanent job. When I was looking for job, I always had a jacket on. Perhaps I am overdressed and I did not get any job. When I finally got shortlisted, it was when I was just wearing a Tee shirt and slacks. The post was for a telephone operator. I was "head-hunted" after a month to join my cousin brother in his newly opened branch office.

In reply to your question, No, I do not have an interview "outfit".

myLot reputation of 98/100. vega83 (1408)   ranked 245 out of 25,812 in people  1 year ago

I guess for a telephone operator, a tee shirt and slacks would be the best way to go. It's as I said once, that if it's a telephone job, then there's no need for a face to face interview anyway, why can't they just take the interview over the phone?

Yes, I do have an outfit, and it is suited to the types of positions I apply for. It is a small black houndstooth check pants, vest the same with ribbon embroidery and trim, and contrasting pin stripe ribbon as well. I wear a colored blouse/button down shirt in one of the colors of the embroidery. Often turquoise, sometimes pink. I work in schools and Nursing Homes. This looks professional, yet cheery.

yeah,it's of great importance to look your best and impress your interviewer.I don't have a particular interview outfit because time changes, but I did try to look neat and clean, wearing white shirt along with a pair of grey or black pants or jeans. If in winter,a black jacket/suit on a white shirt helps you look professional. In addition, selecting a fitting tie is another contribution to the interview. And a professional hair style and polished shoes would be the impressive factor too.

myLot reputation of 98/100. vega83 (1408)   ranked 245 out of 25,812 in people  1 year ago

yeah, Garden Gerty, you're absolutely right, you can look professional and cheery too, that's a nice outfit you described.
And Lincoln, you really nailed the shoe part, I also think that shoes are an important part of every outfit, especially for the interview.
