i always try to buy gas from a very busy gas station because i feel its tanks are filled on a regular basis,to me gas stations that are slow will have gas thats has been sitting around just like food, the quality wont be that great.my husband always taught me to make sure i always turn the nozzle when im finished filling up my tank to 180 degrees or so,so that this way it will drain a bit more gas into your tank, sometimes i have even got a full half a cup more, which is a bonus to me.and i really dont believe that theres much of a difference between regular gas and high octane gas, only for the simple fact that high octane gas is more expensive, and believe it or not i found out that regular gas is 87 octane already.so your just better off buying regular and saving money.i always make sure i get gas when i am half a tank or when i find a gas price i cant resist.what do you think.

I never heard of that 180 degree thing. But as far as the high octane thing. If i dont put premium gas into my tank then my check engine light goes on so that is a must for me. I drive a 96 3000gt.

When you put gas in your car it is always good to pull the nozzle out a little. Release the handly and then pull it again. This will also help get the little extra out. Not only that it will keep gas from dripping on the car and making that terrible smell. As far as the octane it does matter. There are some cars that will not run well on anything under 97 octane. Then there are other cars that can run on as low as 85. It really does depend on your car. I had a 94 Jeep Cherekee and if you put the high octane in it, she will buck and make all kinds of back fires. My mom had a Chevy Malibu that only ran on 97 octane or better by putting the lower octane she got back fires and such. In the hot weather I never have more than a 3/4 tank of gas at one time. Another good thing to help keep the milage down is an oil change and clean airfilter. You can also put in the cheaper low octane gas and use an octane booster if needed as well. Gas is very expensive but you don't want to put the wrong gas in and have more problems with your car running poorly.

Another way to save gas is plan your shopping trips out so that you are going in a big circle.

Here are some more ways to save on gas. Make sure you tires are inflated to the recommended max. Having a clean car slows down the air drag. get rid of any extra witght. if you have road service insurance take out the spare tire and call the road side service to come change the tire. Keep the oil and air filters clesn

I do the same thing with turning the handle of the pump. I read the other posts too, there is one other thing that I've heard of and tried, that is, put gas in your car early in the morning and not in the heat of the day, I guess late at night would work too. My husband used to work at a gas station and he said that usually prices change around 10 AM, if prices are going up, going earlier might help. I wanted to share this, the other day a friend of ours was telling us about how he was excited because he used his Kroger plus card to save 10 cents a gallon, so he only paid $2.80 a gallon, then he realized how crazy it was that he was excited that it was "cheaper". We discussed how we remember when we got upset when gas prices went above $1.00, now we're excited when it's below $3.00...this is crazy!
