New television show |

I have never watched 6 degrees of Keving Bacon. But now, I see that Martina McBride is going to do the next one. Can someone tell me the preface for this show. It looks interesting, but I'd like to know a little more about it before I give up something else for it.

1. vmks31 (7459) | 3 years ago | I remember one night on Larry King Kevin was interviewed and of course they came up I believe he has a web site about this but t be honest as he was interviewed i was not really that turned on by the whole thing but what do i know After reading this below i now have a slight turn around and it does sound quite intellectual and who knows how many others feel ......... Six degrees of separation refers to the idea that, if a person is one "step" away from each person he or she knows and two "steps" away from each person who is known by one of the people he or she knows, then everyone is no more than six "steps" away from each person on Earth. Several studies, such as Milgram's small world experiment, have been conducted to empirically measure this connectedness. While the exact number of links between people differs depending on the population measured, it is generally found to be relatively small. Hence, six degrees of separation is somewhat synonymous with the idea of the "small world" phenomenon.

When you live in a small town, it doesn't take long to find someone who knows someone who knows you. My daughter's college choir director used to live in the same small town we did. Only they left before we moved there. It was funny how many friends we had in common, but had never met.

3. decisionmaster (109) | 3 years ago | 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon refers to the popular game in which any actor can be connected with Kevin Bacon in 6 movies or less. Connected being defined as being in the same movie together. For example. Catherine Zeta Jones was in "Chicago" with Renee Zellwegger was in "Me, Myself, and Irene with Jim Carrey who was in "Batman Forever" with Val Kilmer who was in "The Saint" with Elisabeth Shue who was in "Hollow Man" with Kevin Bacon. Martina McBride 6 degrees show: 6 aspiring country musicians had to find someone who knew Martina McBride through 6 acquaintances or less. Then they had a talent show. The top 3 were voted on by a live audience. Then Martina helped them make a demo tape and 3 judges selected a winner who would get a record deal with Sony, Martina McBride's label. The show also went over how Martina had one connection that got her into the industry.

carpenter5 (1879) | 3 years ago | That makes much more sense to me now. Thanks for that very accurate description of the game and the show. What network is it on? I have not seen it at all, which really surprises me, because I love Kevin Bacon.

decisionmaster (109) | 3 years ago | There is not a show that plays the six degrees game but there are websites. One of them Kevin Bacon uses for charity. I just think it is cool that out of all the music artists ABC could choose from they picked Martina McBride because she is one of the most graceful singers and she is the most talented based on pure singing ability. This is my personal opinion. By the way, I met Martina McBride last year so I am connected to her in one level.

carpenter5 (1879) | 3 years ago | Sounds like a cool game. I'll have to see if I can't find it and check it out. I loved Kevin Bacon when I was a teenager. My girls still think he's a cutie. "For an old Guy" is the words that my oldest uses.
