I wouldn't have thought it was possible! We had just hired a new desk clerk. I worked with her one night and was very impressed with her. She was very nice to the guests and patient, just all around sweet. Then this week, I noticed that she wasn't on the schedule. I found out that on her first night alone, she had 3 different complaints for being mean and rude, and was fired!! Interesting thing is that this was the night I worked with her... until about 3:30 am. So between then and 7am, how in the heck did she turn into such a monster that she got so many complaints?!??! Talk about split personalities!! Do you know anyone like this?

hmmm maybe that's what I've got. A split personality! lol I can be a very sweet person the majority of the time, but occassionally I get my buttons pushed and I lose my temper. I can only wonder what happened with that person. Either she was a fake, pretending to be nice when her bosses were watching and let loose when she thought she could get away with it, or somebody said or did something that set her off. The fact that it happened 3 times in one night, does kind of make it seem as if the problem did lie with her and not the people she was being rude to. Did you get any details on what happened? How she was rude to them?

No, I never found out anything more. But one perosn who was training her told me about a woman who's dog started barking in the lobby, and she yelled at her to get the dog out of there. So I guess she did have it in her to not be so nice when she's pushed to it.

You just made me think of a woman I used to work with. We were really good friends and had lots of fun at work. But sometimes she'd give me the silent treatment for days! I'd just have to wait it out until she'd tell me what was wrong. I hated that!

I hope you put in a good word for her and your opinion of her as a worker. Amazing how much weight a complaint from a customer can have with a company...you know that old adage...the customer is always right. Sounds like they could have given her the benefit of the doubt or done some more research into what exactly happened.

I thought it was pretty harsh also. WE had a guy who ALWAYS got customer complaints, but stayed for a long time. We were short handed, and they wanted to fire him, but couldn't. (As soon as we hired more people who stayed, he was gone) I guess she was here at the wrong time because we were able to lose her. I really wonder about the details of the situation and the complaints.

It's possible she may have been under stress, and if she had tired, rude guests coming in when she was still learning they may have aggravated her instead of been patient with her. Some people don't cope with stress well. I'm assuming you work front desk at a hotel of some sort? I did that for years, and I remember the guests checking in when I worked the night audit shift were literally the WORST. Tired, cranky, impatient -- they just wanted a room so they could sleep until checkout. However, I'd been working the morning and afternoon shifts for a month up to that point so I wasn't still learning, but it's possible that if I had been just learning and had no one to ask questions to I might have snapped too. They'd argue about everything and most mornings I'd get a call from my manager that someone had complained I was rude to them. She knew better since I never recieved any complaints on the other 2 shifts I worked, and she was well aware of how the late night customers operated. It's entirely possible that it's management's fault for not checking to make sure she herself felt ready to work a shift alone and just put her on after they felt she was fully trained, or maybe put her on during a day or evening shift alone so she could still call someone if she had any questions.

The one thing I have learned about retail is you have to kind of skate around customers to make sure they are pleased. I have had customer complaints when I felt I did nothing wrong. Customers can turn you in for supposedly being rude when the truth is they just had a bad day and took it out on you. That is the one thing I absolutely hate about retail.!

People are annoying to deal with so I don't see it that unreasonable for her sudden turn around.
