We just moved into a new house that doesn't have air conditioning. And it's pretty hot. PLus, we have 6 dogs. So that they aren't forced to bake outside all day, and can come and go to "go" outside, we often leave a door open for them. Yes, we will get a doggie door soon, but still... the flies come in the house. And I am not talking about one or two... it's like Amityville Horror in here! We can hardly eat, the flies land on us, on our food, and it's grossing me out. I have a sticky fly trap sitting RIGHT next to my PC and they are still here. What can I do to get rid of flies?

I am afraid that you are your own worse ennemy. Under those circonstances... there is nothing you can do about it.
First rule... close the door. Either have the dogs inside or outside... but don't leave the door open for them.
Don't let any food or dirty dishes lying around. It attract the flies. That said... the dogs will attract the flies. Even you will attract the flies through the scent of your sweat.
The only cure is to close everything. Flies will find the tiniest hole to get in. I have an open fireplace and they find their way down the chminey. Everytime your dogs use your new trap door... they will bring a fly in with them.
Mortein spray is the only thing which work effectively... and in your case you will need to spray every 30 minutes.

Well, we also do NOT have AC in our house. So I have to leave the windows open. Even if the doors are closed, i am sure they can squeeze through small tears in the screens. Oh well, I guess I have to live with them!

If you leave your doors open you will have flies and unless you are willing to close the doors you will continue to have flies coming into your house. You say that the house is so hot because you don’t have AC. But there are some things you can do. First get some screens on the windows. If there are tares in the screens then get a repair kit and fix. them. That will help keep the flies out when you open the windows. Now to keep your house cool open all the windows when it is cool out side say in the early morning. Now keep checking to see when you can feel warm air coming in it is time to close the windows and curtains to shut out any sunlight and hot air that is coming in. Do you keep the doggie poo picked up. In not it will attract flies like crazy. There really isn’t any excuse for have a house full of flies these days You can look on the internet for organic fly repellant for pets.

I lived on a fram when I was much younger too. We Had chickens and horses and cattle. we also had dogs and cats the chicken would be in the yard and sometimes do the business near the door. We did have screens but the dogs were not allowed to run in and out as they pleased. they had dog houses. So I guess yoy'll live with the flies until you decide to do something different Huh.

Well, both my husband and I work full time AND we run an organic farm at home. We don't have a lot of time to sit in the house and check for when to open and close the windows.
Because we are gone for 8 hours every day, we leave the back door open so the dogs can come in if it's raining and go outside when they need to do their business. We live on a 6 acre farm, we have dog poop, chicken poop, and horse poop. we can't eliminate it all, but none of it is near the house.
We haven't had the time to install dog doors, and I'm not going to waste my time fixing screens (yes, we have screens on all the windows) We have livestock to feed, and a garden to tend to. So I guess we live with flies, because until the winter slow down, i don't have time to patch screens. Even if we CLOSE the doors to the house, we still open and close them often to come and go ourselves, as well as letting the dogs in and out.

In my country there is a spray especially made to get rid of the flies. I hope the brand "Ridsect", "Sheltox" and "Bygone" sound familiar to you. Previously the products are only for cocroaches, spiders and mosquitoes. But now they produce their latest products which is special for flies. Maybe you can get the spray from the market near your place. I hope this helps. Thanks.
