Anyone Here Play the Autoharp? email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 95/100. Pigglies (3050)1 year ago

I've wanted to play the autoharp ever since I saw one in elementary school. I might be able to afford one sometime soon, so I wanted to know a few things...

1. What's the best kind to start out with?

2. Is there anywhere besides Ebay that you can find them used (since I would want to see what I'm buying)?

3. How much should I expect to spend initially?

Thanks!

I used to play the autoharp. I got mine as a gift way back in 1979 so I have no idea how much it will be now. I saw my autoharp in the Sears catalog back then, but i think you should try music stores that sell and or rent instruments. Or even pawn shops. Or maybe yard sales.I hope you find one. It isn't hard to play. The only thing is it takes some time to tune all the strings.Good Luck.

Thanks for the inspiration!

I will check out pawn shops and yard sales. Maybe even the thrift shops? I've found some overlooked treasures there before.

I hope I'll be able to learn it as easily as you say.:)
