When you consume too much fat in the form of fried food it gets difficult for the liver to handle it.As a result it stores excess fat through out the body. The fat that accumulates in the bodyand makes us look shubby. Many health problems are related to excessive fat intake heart diseases, liver disorder, cancer tumour and somemore diseases being caused by fat food.
Living on low fat food is good for health. Why not we go for vegetable food completely and consume low quantity of meat and fish. A diet consisting of fresh fruit ,vegetables and skimmed milk is good for waist and heart. Those who consult doctors for weight reduction are advised to avoid fat content foods.
Are you health consious? how to do maintain your weight? do you take a balanced diet to keep fit?

Good discussion! Could not see it earlier. I agree that fat is dangerious for us. But sometimes, we cannot control ourselves and keep consuming food having fact. I agree we should go for good raw vegetables and fruits instead of taking fried and junk food. I try not to indulge in taking junk food, but sometimes, I cannot resist my temptation.

I eat a pretty good diet. Red meat on a blue moon, turkey, unfortunately fish isn't affordable.

Unfortunately, I came into the world with a really crappy genetic code. I've a slow thyroid and a whole host of health problems.

I am wicked weight conscious but I have noticed I am not eating as well as I should. I am at the weight I want to be but am not getting enough calcium and not eating enough.
I have started to make an effort to eat more vegetables. I used to and then I sort of just didn't. And I have to get that calcium in so I am getting fat free yogurt because I hate milk.
I don't eat high fat anything and stay away from fried foods and junk. Now and then I will have a slice of pizza or a cookie or whatever but I am very conscious of the fat I consume because high cholesterol runs in my family and both sisters are on medication for it. I don't want that so I am watching that closely.
I maintain my weight by eating small portions, stopping when full, drinking water and iced tea (usually green tea) and trying to exercise as often as I can (but never to excess).
I have maintained my weight for about six years so I guess I am doing something right but I do know I must watch my nutrition as much as my calories and fat and am changing my habits once again to include fresh veggies, more fish, and calcium.
I don't take vitamins because, well, I don't. But I do have to take potassium because my body seems to flush it out of my system if I don't. Otherwise, I know I need a daily vitamin, I have them here, and I just don't take them.. I am not sure what's up with that. Hold pon a sec ... I just took one. There, you helped me stay healthy. lol.:)

I have seen people when I holiday abroad spending their leisure hours scuba diving, skiing ,skating, jogging, playing beach volley ball and enjoying them to the maximum.
And i have seen our people spending their leisure hours thronging the newest restaurants with the kids too with glee and proudly indulging as if it is an impossible task flashing their neo richness.
It is the attitude problem that causes all the trouble.

Anything in excess is bad. That is my policy.I am a non vegetarian. That doesn't mean I gorge on meat alone.A good salad and plenty of vegetables are a must for our family. We have meat free days in a week.We choose the right oil with HDL.I go for a walk daily. My weight is 70kgs for the past 15 years. You got to listen to your body.If you ignore the signals then you are in a big trouble.

I try to eat low or no fat foods as well as cut down on foods with a lot of sugar in them. I look for sugar free items as well as non fat items. The less fat and suger we eat the better off we will be in life. We also need to exercise so I do make sure I either go for long walks or do some cardiovascular workouts on my machines at home and some weightlifting. I also drink a lot of war. Stay away from the sodas and other juices with sugar in them.

Dear subathra
I used to consume all types of food whether with low fat/high fat .. but high fat is only sometimes when there is some party going or some occassion otherwise I used to take a low fat diet. Low fat diet is really good for health. Though I am not health conscious but my weight is quite less .. It's only 47 kg. Earlier it was 50 kg .. I really don't know how it got reduced to 3 kg. I don't do anything to maintain my weight .. but I am happy that my weight is ok according to my figure :)

I agree that we should eat low fat food and non-fried food.Anything oily should be off the diet.I'm PRO LO Fat!Anything LO fat is good!Being vegan's a big step but I believe it works for some people.I was a vegan for a month but I suffered and the doctor advised that my body's not compatible for the vegan diet.So whatever it is,consult the doctor before you try on any diets!Fruit diet is alright.Skim milk is good too when added into beverages.I'm health conscious and it helps when I'm dating a health freak. He understands and I love him for that.I jog every morning without fail.I take all the food groups in the pyramid, with lesser portions to the top of the pyramid.Hope this helps,Subathra!

I choose the fats I eat. I eat beef and fishes. They say fat from beef can develop your mind. Fat is good sometimes, you must use the fats that you are eating inorder for it not to develop inside your body. Heart disease is very traitorous when it comes to food and activities.

About a month ago I just started my healthy life with consuming healthy food with less fat. I have an overweight problems, and together with my husband we started to change our food pattern into healthy food consumer. We at least try to buy healthy stuff, and try to use organic food as much as we can. We are not vegetarians, we still eat meat, but we try to get good and healthy meat for our foods. Believe it or not, me and my husband started to feel the different in our daily life, we feel more fresh and healthy, and we started to lose our weight slowly. I think this is the good way for us.

Assuming you have perused the charts and used the calculators on this site its reasonably obvious what your "ideal body weight" should be. The charts do vary quite considerably but a general target range should be indicated. Each and every one of us is different and each individual is dependent on health, body fat content, body fat distribution, musculature, skeletal structure, age, activity, metabolism, and a wide variety of other contributing factors.
If you are going to use the tables as a guideline, start conservatively by choosing a conservative weight. Once you reach your target weight adjust the target if you still feel you need to trim off additional weight. Effective Weight loss is a slow and steady and consistent project. Do not rush or over diet! A general guideline is not more than 2lbs or 1Kg per week.
The 6 Point Plan
* Consult your physician/dietitian.
* Agree on a calorie reduced balanced diet.
* Eat fruit, whole grain, lean meat and low fat products.
* Drink liquids - particularly water!
* Exercise. Walking is an excellent start!
* Make a commitment and stick to it!

I don't eat red meat. Only when I go out. Once or twice a month won't hurt me. It's too expensive for one thing. Veggies are a regular in the diet. Five pounds of carrots, a bunch of celery, potatoes rather than processed bread as I'm allergic to wheat. Fruit unfortunately is kinda pricey. I've a computer habit to keep LOL! Better health is a side effect, although the health is not good for reasons other than diet.

Thanks for those health tips....these days I am on diet because I am newly-diagnosed to have high blood sugar, bad cholesterol and high triglyceride...I am really scared...in fact, I followed the advise of the doctor to go easy on foods that are high in fat contents...Yup, I am health conscious these days, especially when I was diagnosed about my high blood sugar. Have suffered a mild hypoglycemia since I am on medication to treat my high blood sugar. I'm happy now that I have already adjusted to the medication. I eat less now, and do exercise every morning, so I think I have a normal weight now....
