I know there are not many people here who have adult attention deficit disorder but those who do, or know someone who does, I would really appreciate your advice. I am a hyper person and have a LOT of anxiety. Always have. I am totally disorganized and tend to do 10 things at once. Right now I am messaging a friend, writing a product review, writing this, talking to my son, and thinking about my plans for tomorrow. I don't pay bills on time, not because I don't have the money but because I just forget or put it off. My house is cluttered, my life is cluttered, and I am going in circles. I do complete tasks but I take the long way around a lot of the time and waste a lot of time rather than focusing on ONE task. I feel overwhelmed because I have so much to do but I made myself overwhelmed by taking on too much and avoiding dealing with things as they came along. There's more but I don't want to write it all if no one relates. Do YOU relate? Do you have ADD? Can you give me insight? Or maybe tell me what you do to keep organized and focused? I drive myself and everyone around me crazy! Thanks!!

I was diagnosed with Adult ADD last September. Besides of the symptoms that you mentioned I was very argumentive. I craved the attention from it. Do you finsh your projects or leave them once they lose your interest? They said I topped of of the charts for the testing for ADD. I always wanted to be number one at something. :-)

I usually finish writing projects because I have to but I put everything off until I am way late in getting it done then I do a mad dash to catch up. That is workwise. At home, I never finish anything and barely start anything because I am so overwhelmed and feel like if I can't do it all in one sitting or session, I can't start it. What have you done to alleviate the symptoms? Do you feel better and less (insert word here for the feeling of ADDism) now? Thanks for the reply!

I still have my 'want for attention' side and I still cannot sit still. But I'd say it is 50% better than it was a year ago.

I don't enjoy it. I want to be organized like everyone else and do one task at a time but my brain thinks so fast that I can't. I am creative but I also need to be real and get my life uncluttered and on some sort of schedule. But I don't want to lose my creative ability! Thanks for the reply.

I think you know your 'problem area' very well. You need to prioritised your tasks. You will have to take a decision, which of your tasks need priority and you can line up your tasks accordingly. Accordingly to me, it is not a healthy attitude to clutter up the things. ....if you complete your tasks one by one, I hope you will be able to overcome your problem. Donot feel dishearterned ....I think there are many people in this world, who just do not bother to priortise their tasks, yet they become successful. Best of Luck to you.

I'm much younger than you to give ADD but i just want to share what i thought might be considerable. i think it takes DETERMINATION to be a very organized person. it can't be done overnight. it takes longer than we thought. one thing at a time. at the same time, NEVER feel pressured to organize yourself-relax and enjoy whatever you do as long as it's all about organizing things.. cheers!

It does take determination to be organized. I never was even as a kid. I had my mother looking for my school books two minutes before I had to leave for school. I guess I have to put my mind to it and do it but I have tried so many times and failed. Maybe this next time.... Thanks for the reply!

there is nothing wrong with you, you are a very creative person that's it. you need to do so many things at the same time because you know that you can do that. you just need to relax, get some massages, listen to music slow, jazz, etc, when working leave the music on, try it. have a cup of coffee, look ouside, enjoy the breeze, loosen your hair, tell your self you are the best. cause you are. and you can do all the good things at once. drink a lot of water its a calmer, though you are calm. love, apple.

I just discovered that I have had ADD my entire life. Unfortunately, it seems to be getting worse with age. I am 42 and I always feel that I am going in circles, doing too many things, and very annoyed about clutter. I was glad to find this discussion and hopefully I will read some helpful suggestions. I don't have any suggestions because I am looking for answers myself, but I wanted to thank you for starting this discussion.

As I know the things regarding this Adult ADD, It is really a multyfasceted characteristics of the person who always wanted to perform that way ans most probably doing that every day when found the opportunity! Is this a problem? No, if you can make out positive things out of that: How to make out that positive? Just try out to guess the inside capacity of yourself in thinking and following the thinking process properly: If you found that you have 10 things in mind and you can do all then try to do those but if you can not do those then reduce to 8 then 6 ... But be sure that you can do that thoroughly! I think one has to seat quitely when such an issue is occurring and think that what really he or she wants to do? List those down and do one by one... This will give you the feeling of organising the things and work would be done also! In the deep of one's own self there are possibilities to do the things simultenously at a time. When a person can not do like that then some time the occurrence of such possibility comes out suddenly in varrious activities and in women such happening comes out during manopause also. So just be aware and tackle suggested ways then it would become positive for you! Just do that!

I have ADD and have had all my life. However, I wasn't diagnosed with it until in my 50's and am 63 years old now. My diagnoses came from a neuropsychiatrist, not just a psychologist, with the use of computer enhanced EEG testing that showed the way my brain functions. I have always and still do several things at one time. I don't sit quietly and watch television just like right now, I'm watching a movie, and working on here. I hate it when I have something in the back room that I need and on the way do 10 things and then get there and can't remember what I came there to get. I have trouble turning my brain off, and have a very short sleep cycle, but it is not always the way ADD manifests itself. Some ADD people demand more sleep because their minds are so hyper-active that they are exhausted and can't function without many hours. There is a very definitive book out "Driven to Distraction." Do not ask me the author, I'm lucky if I remember the title. There are other books available that will give you help. I've had to learn relaxation techniques, meditation and make lists and follow them for my days to be organized. Anxiety requires I learn relaxation, meditation and breathe and practice it regularly. I can't take the medication for ADD because it causes me other problems with a central nervous system disorder. Hope some of this helps....wish I could tell you that it gets better or is cured, but it doesn't. Stress is not your friend if you have ADD. It can be manageable to a large degree with biofeedback. Good luck, and keep in touch. I absolutely know how you feel.
