I have been trying to quit for a while now and I am not having much luck. what has worked the best for me in the past was to cut back gradually at first because you dont want to go from 2 packs a day to none, you will just go into nicotine monster mode!! once you have cut back it will start to get a little easier but I still had to use the patch and lots of gum. sometimes talking about it helps sometimes it dosent. I also have heard of a program called nicotine anonymos, my friend said that helped her alot, she has succesfully quit for 3 months now. http://www.nicotine-anonymous.org good luck to you.

Keep on smoking and enjoy with it; in the mean time eat the green bean(6" long) for chlorophyll, it will reduce your smoking intake and gradually put you in 'halt'. You cannot take sudden 'quit' step as will cause you bad cough.

Yes, talk to my dad. He smoked like a chimney for 50 years. This time last year, he had to have half of one lung removed due to cancer. He said that although it has been almost one year, every day is a struggle and the urges are still there. He wants to live, so he continues to fight.

Two packs a day, I don't think I smoke that much.. I think though if I didn't I wouldn't be able to breathe at night.. But than again I've done it before when I am really stressed out I will smoke alot more than normal.. I have tried to stop smoking but it's not easy.. here I am still smoking.. it's easy to start but hard to stop that's for sure....

2 packs a day! that should be reason enough to quit! if you really want to quit then you can. it just takes a lot of "will power". my dad smoked a pack a day for over 30 years and he tried the patches and the quit line but they didn't work because he didn't want to give up. when he got diabetes he knew he would die if he didn't give up so he did it, just like that; he gave up "cold turkey". You can do it, you just need to find something else to do, something else to occupy your time, something fun, another hobby. it also doesn't help if you have smoker friends or partner. i've heard "hypnotherapy" works wonders. if you have people who love you then think about how they would feel if you developed cancer from smoking. you are sure to get something that is life threatening when you smoke that many smokes a day. i wish you all the best and god bless.

If you're up to 2 packs a day you're going to have a hard time quitting cold-turkey unless you have nerves of steel. I found it almost impossible to just quit one pack a day. First off try a decrease first which should run much more smoothly. Once you're down to a pack a day try quitting completely. Best way to quit completely is grit through those first 3 or 4 days where the niccotine is still in your body and after that it's all mental. Try to figure out what works for you, but basically at this point it's just all distraction and playing with your mind so it doesn't keep coming back to the thought of smoking.

Two things that you need to have in mind. First that you need a lot of commitment and drive to leave smoking. Second, don't try anything drastic at the beginning. A gradual reduction might be a good way to go about it. For e.g. can you first try and reduce to 1 pack a day. Then reduce it to half a pack and so on. If you try too drastic a change your resolve will break and you will hit the habit again and would be worse off than when you began. Cheers and all the best! Ram
