The questions you ask are indeed technical and hard ones but you haven't asked the most important question: Is it possible to leave AOL? Let's face it, AOL is like a penal colony - they aren't about to let you escape without a fight. That is why you cannot cancel AOL without calling them on the phone, they have specially trained psychologists/hypnotists/customer service employees who job it is to see you never get out of AOL. As for your email addresses, for goodness' sake if you value your friends, do not put their email address into your AOL email. It's like inviting them to a spam and virus party. Never, ever, use AOL's browser. If used at all, AOL should be used for the free trial hours as a dial-up ISP and then minimized so you can surf the net using a real browser like Firefox. If you have to, copy and paste or type into a text file all your email addresses and enter them into your new email. As for favorites, try to do the same. Download Firefox or use IE (if you have to) and individually go to each site and then bookmark it on your browser. I can't see AOL allowing you to copy any of their files. AOL giveth - and AOL taketh away.
