| | 2. candy111 (141) | 1 year ago | Ive been to Hong Kong so many times I cant count. Lets see if I remember some of my Asian History, Hong Kong was a british colony and it was only in 1999 that it was reverted back to china. Most of the people in hong kong are from canton which was one of the business and financial provinces in china until the communist regime. The elite, educated, bankers, etc fled china and moved to Taiwan, Hong kong, and other south east asian countries like the philippines, malaysia, singapore. People in Hong Kong mostly speak cantonese which is funny because the intonation makes them seem like they are always shouting at each other. its a very fast paced city, much like people in new york people just rushing everywhere. Hong Kong is divided into what is known as Hong Kong side and kowloon side and now only recently they have explored what is called the New territories 8in fact one of that hosts the new Hong kong disneyland) - which really isn't spectacular, there are probably only two rides that adults would enjoy (Buzz Lightyear and the other is like space Mountain) we were there when it had just opened and as my brother commented, at least when i wait 2 hrs in line in disneyland its not for dumbo! But of course the kids enjoyed it. everything is accessible by the MTR, going from Hong kong side to kowloon side ou would ride the ferry which is on ocean terminal (much cheaper than riding a cab). Shopping wise, kowloon side would be said to have the more extravagant stores, like Todds, louis vitton, and it also has the Peninsula Hotel whcih has a wonderful lobby and you get picked up from the airport via a rolce royce. Nightlife is pretty much restricted or its where foreigners go is at the Lai Kwai Fong stop of the mtr. All the bars and night clubs are here. There is Victorias Peak which is best to go at night so you can see the whole of hong kong with all the lights and it has a pretty decent restaurant. speaking of food, dimsum in HK is probably one of the best. Ocean Park is a small amusement park which features a dolphine show and some rides (havent been there in years though apparently there are more things to do now) I play golf so I tried to play golf there and its outrageously expensive, but then again am comparing it to the Philippines which golf is very much cheaper than in the US or Europe. I went to the driving range once, and the lowest end car was a BMW. Okay, what else is there, if you are into electronics, then you have to make a stop at oops its slipping my mind right now which stop it is. But be careful, always bargain and make sure that what you examined and in working condition is what they actually give you in the end. Of course for bargain hunting, you have to go to mongkok. its a busy night market. Shopping malls include, Time Square (in Causeway Bay), sogo, Pacific Place, Ocean center and a lot more. You can now actually go from HK to china (Shenzen) via train that you take at the kowloon tong station. you can pretty much get a visa to enter when you arrive there but its better to get one beforehand. Pretty much it. hahaha or what my brain can think of at the moment.

| | 3. u067858e (369) | 1 year ago | I heard about those factory outlets for adidas, espirit, nike, levi's and there is a big shopping mall called citygate which offers very good bargain for all these branded goods. Is shopping really worth it in Hong Kong?

| | | 4. deepseadolphin (80) | 9 months ago | 60% of the lands of HK are country parks(forest, grassy hills), regardless of that, the Air Quality of this city is extremely bad. Water and hygiene are of top quality, need not worry about food poisoning there. Almost all young people in HK know some bit of English, therefore communication is easy. For info of about history of this coast city, there's a beautiful museum located in TsimShaTsui: Hong Kong Museum of History In this museum you'll see the history of HK from prehistorical stone-age to modern age, you shall see all wars and all sort of cultural changes. A visit only cost HKD$10 (US$1.28), and it's free on every Wednesday!
