A little while ago one of my sons gave me a VHS copy of Peter, Paul and Mary's twenty-fifth anniversary concert. I was delighted, since this is my favourite musical group from the sixties and seventies. How many of you can remember the music of that era, what were some of your favourite songs?

I loved Where Have all the Flowers Gone. I also still love Puff the Magic Dragon. I sing it to my son all the time. I wish they would air the animated special like they used to. I'd love my son to see it. I think he would love it. I know I did.

Hi wiccania, These are two of my favourites also. Thanks for your comment.

Yes, I remember Peter Paul & Mary and many other singers and groups of that era. I believe the best part of that genre of music was that the singing was the feature - not all the loud music that drowns out the words.

The vocals then were distinct. They might have been meaningless ("Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket. Save it for a rainy day. - Perry Como) but they were harmless. They were clear. They were sing-able. They were enjoyable. They were not deafening.

I wasn't around until the late '80s, lol, and the first time I heard about Peter, Paul, and Mary was when they used to do the Christmas specials on PBS. I have heard some of their songs, my favorites being "Leavin' on a Jetplane" and "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?". I did a report on folk music for a class last year and they were covered briefly in it.

Hi cheapterri, I know you're much too young to remember, but I'm glad you've heard some of the songs. You picked one of my favourites, "Where have all the flowers gone?" Folk music is in a class all its own. Thanks for commenting. Blessings.

Well I was still a little girl in the 60's and don't have many musical memories, - but the 70's is a different matter completely. It was "my" era - growing up, first parties, going off to Uni - you know the sort of thing!? I was definately a child of my generation - all the great English progressive rock bands like Genesis, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, etc were my heroes, and I actually still listen to them today. The only thing I really remember from the 60's was "Born to be Wild" by Steppenwolf, and I can still remember when I was about 10 or 11, being out in the garden singing that at the top of my lungs..........! LOL! Poor neighbours!!! So - just for old times sake:-

Like a true nature's child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die

Born to be wild
Born to be wild
