The 2005-06 high school football season saw a half million injuries caused to players, many of them serious acccording to the American Journal of Sports Medicine. Running plays were the cause of most injuries in both high school and collegiate football. With the new season about to begin, do you want your child to play football? Are you concerned about your child sustaining injuries? Do you allow it and hope for the best, or will you forbid it as not being in his best interest and risk alienating your child?

Hello Rollo. I'm quite sure my husband would respond and say yes he would be very concerned about his son playing football and receiving injuries. Our son is now 27 years old and just recently there were children playing in the field across from our street. His response was, 'how could they let those kids play on a cold night like this?'. If Nathan was playing I would come over and bring him home.' He went every week when Nath was in Little Athletics. Perhaps because he was the fastest runner there and never received an injury. As for me, I would be concerned but if he had talent and excelled at the game I would allow him to play and watch him with fingers crossed. Glenniah

I guess you have to let kids be kids, but I am a nervous nellie like your husband. It's hard to stand by and watch, I think. At least now that your son has gotten past those years, you can relax a little.
