Do you LAUGH even when you don't understand the JOKE?

I have never laught at something that I don't understand.I prefer to sit and watch TV when others are smiling at this.Then I watch direct in TV or just ask them why they are laughing.

no, I will not pretend to laugh just to let them think that I understand the movie.

i would ask the one sitting besides me what the joke was and tell him/ her the true reason why i can not understand the joke----half concentrated. it won't lose my face, i think, if i only tell the nearest person my true feeling. usually they would not tell other people about this. but if you've pretended knowing what the joke was and the next time when you get together, your friends talk about it again, how would you reply? i think if you can not understand what they are talking about this time, it is much more embarrasing. do you think so?

No I don't laugh, instead I get this stupid classic blond look on my face that begs the Question WTF was that all about. Which at that point the joke teller will usually start trying to explain to me and if still then I don't understand I usually will say never mind its over my head.. LMAO

Yes it happened so many times .For instance when my colleagues crack a joke which is beyond my understanding or maybe I could not interpret the fun part in it I feel confused as to what to do...but then suddenly if everyone responds to that by laughing heartily I too make a funny sound which in all sense or maybe to a little extent resembles laughter.I don't want to be trapped as an odd man out...so has no other options rather than acting like a member of the laughing club.Now the manner of laughter varies from time to time.When I feel the joke is a little funny I laugh normally making minimum noise as possible,when i feel the joke is utter nonsense and failed to meet its purpose atleast in my case I just widen my lips in the form of a curve with no noise at all and when the joke seems really funny to me and tickles my nerves like the laughing gas does, I express my pleasure through fits of laughter.

I have to admit to sometimes switching off like you mention and missing out on what others find really funny. I wouldn't laugh for the sake of it but would whisper to the person next to me "Erm what did I miss?" I might crack a smile because watching others laugh is quite infectious even if you didn't hear what was funny.

I have to tell you about a bit of a cruel joke we used to play with some friends in the pub years ago, a few of us, say 3 or 4 people would plan a joke to tell whilst one person was maybe at the bar or in the toilet such as:

There's this guy who goes into a baker's shop and asks for a loaf of bread. When the baker asks him if he wants brown or white bread, he replies "oh it doesn't matter, my bicycle's outsite!"

Now this "joke" is not even funny but it was a stupid experiment to see if the missing member of the group would laugh like a nutter once we told the joke. So someone would tell the joke and the rest of us including the joke teller would burst out into hysterical laughter. The person who didn't get the joke ALWAYS joined in the laughter, which in turn, made the rest of us laugh even more because we couldn't figure out what they were laughing at aside from our laughter. At the end of it by the time we calmed down laughing we would ask the person "So can you explain why that joke was funny?" No one ever knew... Try it out yourself if you can. It's quite a cruel experiment but because of this I never laugh when someone tells a joke that I don't get or just because others are laughing. Sometimes I do feel like an idiot though as when the joke is explained I realise erm that I just didn't get it the first time around LOL!

well tats a tough situation...
hmmm well i think i just wouldnt be able to just laugh it off so i would smile along n then nudge the person near me n just cunningly tackle tat joke or sitaution tat triggered the laugh n then onwards try concentrating on the movie....lol

What's just as awkward is when you're the only one to understand a joke, and you start guffawing like mad, and everyone else just looks at you with raised eyebrows.

I'd be honest, say "I'm sorry, I missed that." I think a fake laugh can be spotted a mile away, even if these"not so close friends" caught that I wasn't laughing along with them, I wouldn't fake it.
