Is John Lennon a communist |
| |
| I you would study John Lennon's compositions, Revolution and Imagine, he is encouraging communism to be the world's form of government. | | | | | |

| | I don't think John was a communist. He was for peace but I don't think he ever said that he for a communist or a capitalist government. | | | | | | |

| | he would never say than he is a communist, he will be arrested if he did that. The messages of his songs, Revolution and Imagine have sommunism ideals, you know, he was pushing for revolutionm, no religion and no government in his songs. | | | |

| | Just because he wasn't for religion doesn't make him a communist. There are many Agnostics and Atheists here in the States and they are not communists. And a lot of people were anti government in the 60's. His government and ours were sending young men ti die in a war many didn't believe was right. So that doesn't make him a communist either. | | | |

| | Being a communist does not mean being brutal, sowing terror or war-freaked. Communism is a peaceful coexistence with one another with all people being equal, without religion or god and government (That's why I think it is impossible). What's inhuman is the process of the transformation and education from the present set up to communism. So when I say that John might be a communist, I do not mean that he wanted a world full of wars and chaos. | | | |

| | John Lennon believed that religion was a personal issue. That people did not have to congregate with or convert others. That what you believe should be respected instead of being used as an excuse to hate. That your beliefs were yours and yours alone to teach your children, pray to your higher being and to find peace within yourself. If you look at his history, you will see that he did not believe that anyone should control anothers beliefs. Religious, political, or otherwise. In saying no religion and no politics, he was showing that these are walls that separate people from really getting to know others beyond the surface. In Revolution, he was saying to break the chains that bind us, use us as excuses to start wars, and in general, teaching hate and violence rather then love and peace. To stop letting others decide and control what we do, what we think, what we say, and what we believe in based on what others decide. He wanted us to start thinking for ourselves based on open minds and love. With world peace as the ultimate goal. This is not communism. This is freedom. | | | |

| | I don't think that he is really a communist, but it seems like anyone with a radical unifying idea is deemed a communist... I think that he is just a guy who had ideas that people think are radical. | | | | | | |

| | He is a peace activist...as his song says, "Give Peace a Chance. "John Lennon was prominent during the time Vietnam War was raging and he was against it. There was even a conspiracy theory that his assasin, Mark David Chapman, was programmed by the US government to kill him because he was being a threat to mobilize the us people against the government and their war in Vietnam - ala 'conspiracy theory' movie. Anyhoo..why do u care so much if he was a communist or what? he's a great songwriter, musician, artist. He's a legend, and that's what matters. | | | | | | |

| | Vietnam was long over by 1980 - if the Us Government had wanted to kill him they could easily have done it at a point while he was visible still a threat, by making sure somebody slipped him some bad/extra pure drugs or faking a suicide - not in a way that makes him a martyr. | | | |

| | I think its easy for people in the entertainment business who no longer need to worry about personal comforts to embrace government models and promote philosophies to the masses that just won't "work." Because when you think about it - if he grew up in a Marxist society John Lennon would not have been allowed to express himself musically like he did. Many times in dictatorship or communist goverment, dignitaries and celebrities of other countries are treated like special guests of the government so they do not really "see" how people living under that philosophy - even if flawed - live. So of course they are going to think its just peachy. John Lennon's whole life was almost the antithesis of Marxism as much as he toyed with the idea. The fact that he achieved at a much higher level and obtained not just riches but intellectual freedom would never fly. "communism" had nothing to do with "communes" So I prefer to remember John Lennon as a brilliant collaborator/musician/lyricist but like many celebrities, his self indulgent musings were not all based with two feet on the floor. | | | | | | |
