The Law of Attraction: Believe in it?

Do you believe in the Law of Attraction? Basically it says that what you put out there is what you get back and that like attracts like, want attracts want, ect. Following this law, if you believe that you will have success then you will have it but you have to set yourself to a very specific defenition of what that success will be to you in order to get it, like a goal. According to this law you have to clearly know what you want and take steps towards it and life will bring it to you. So bascially you get what you put your energy and focus on, posative or negative. I think that part of it is what makes the most sense to me and I think your outlook and attitude towards life can really make the difference in what happens in your life. A lesson that I easily preach but rarely follow!

Yes I do believe in the Law of Attraction. Whatever energy we emit into the world will be returned back to us. I just finished reading the book "The Secret" and it talks about this.

Great topic choice, gmakesmoney. I absoultely believe in the law of attraction. I call it trusting the universe. When I trust and as you say take steps, the universe provides. When I doubt and sit about and think how a particular outcome that I want will never happen - it doesn't! You may also like, "What the Bleep do We Know?" You can find it on Ebay or Amazon.com. It stars Marlee Matson and in between the story line are scientists and philosphers talking about creating our own reality, of Quantum Ohysics which is basically the science of possibilities. Thanks for posting this discussion and have a fortuitous day. RT

Oh yes...I love the Bleep movie...it was fun to watch..and portrayed many of my beliefs in a way that was very affirming. It is a wonderful medium to assist others who are exploring energetic understanding and spiritual development in a less dogmatic way.

Thanks artemis! I love how you put it, trusting the universe, sounds so much more in tune. You're totally right, I tend to be negative in my own thinking and as no surprise... end up with negative outcomes. I've know about the law of attraction but never gave it much thought and then today it was in my inbox in an email from My Power Mall and I gave it another look and realized it was exactly what I needed to hear today. I'm trying to live by it more now. I'll look for that movie, sounds good.

I think the law of attraction only applies to the things we are focusing on and the energies we are using. However other things do happen, negative and posative that sometimes we cannot understand and I think those are things that we need to evaluate closely and learn from. From every negative experience something positive occurs from within it, it's hard to believe but true even in the case of being raped and I know of that personally myself. It isn't easy but finding the lesson and positive within those negative experiences is the key into bringing forth more positive energies into your life. At least that has been the case for me.

Yup, same here. It's similar to self-fulfilling prophesy or power of positive thinking. If one wills it, it will come true, or something to that effect. There are events in my life that the Law of Attraction applies, although it's not true in all cases. However, the other day, we were discussing it (with my daughter) and pointed out to certain events in her life and that of my son where the Law of Attraction worked or is working...of course, it would be too long a story to share here, but generally speaking, if we have very strong goals in life and really work for it, it will come to you. WE should focus more on positive energies around us instead of the negatives...

I totally agree, the more you focus on the posistive then the more it will unfold in our lives. It's just a matter of placing the focus and holding onto it.

I've watched the film version of "The Secret" and I've leafed through the book. The Law of Attraction has been repackaged and sold with a lot of different covers over the course of a lot of years and the results are always the same: some will swear that it works, some will swear that it's bunk. A positive attitude will yield a lot of positive things and a negative attitude will yield a lot of negative things. Will a positive attitude yield you a Ferrari? Probably not. Will a negative attitude cause a car accident? Come on now... Bear in mind, also that when you watch the movie or read the book, particularly the quotes used in both, there is a good amount of deception in the presentation of words and ideas. Many of the quotes are taken out of context and have had meaning applied to them that was never intended by the person who spoke them. Also please bear in mind that the Law of Attraction actually goes against nature which makes me skeptical of the notion that the Universe would adhere to it. In nature, positive actually attracts negative and vice-versa. Ask any magnet. :-)

I do agree that many times it is taken out of context and presented in a way that isn't accurate at all. I think it does work though, as long as you put the work into it. Attitude does make the difference, if you're a total jerk then nobody will want to help you and if you're a nice person people are more apt to help you out.

Hmmmm.... I read this in the book "The Secret" too. Only at more length and in detail. I think I believe the basic concept but my introduction to it was thru "The Secret" which makes some really big promises. For instance, there's a scene in which a woman stares at a neckalce through a window intently and a little later, she's wearing the necklace. It made it seem almost miraculous. After seein that I kinda became a skeptic cos it looked like one of those miracle cure alls and in my experience if somethin sounds too good to be true, then it probably isn't true...

That does make it sound too good to be true, I think a lot of times what some of these "miracle answers" fail to mention about this law is that you have to take action and do the work to get the goal, you can't just wish for it.

It would be a perverse universe if we didn't get more of what we focus our attention and energy on. The only problem I have with the LOA as it's being hyped by some to attract wealth to themselves, is the almost total neglect of mention that ACTION is also required. For example... You can sit in your chair and imagine a delicious meal, but you'll starve if you don't get up and prepare it.

I totally agree with you, in reading about it I did notice that the obvious wasn't exactly highlighted and the action factor can be left out depending on who's writing about it or what you're reading. It's only natural that if you have the motivation and goal then you are more willing to do the work that it takes to achieve that goal, hense having the goal in mind got you to the finish line but only after you did the work to get there.

i certainly believe that whatever you put out is what you will get back, but if this is a law or not this is what i doubt blessed be

I believe in it. I mean, you see some really terrible people out there that do nothing but put out terrible terrible things and seem to get nothing but bad things in return. But then again, there are people that put out terrible things and get nothing but great things back in return. I haven't figured out why that is yet. But for the most part, I do believe in the law of attraction, I just can't figure out how some people seem to avoid being hit.

I've started so many discussions myself about the Law Of Attraction I sometimes think my friends here are groaning..oh,no not another one..LOL...You're looking at the Queen here of the law of attraction principles..LOL I actually grew up on those principles thanks to my great-grandmother who was so way ahead of her time, so I was introduced to Think and Grow Rich, The Secret Of The Ages, Your Invisible Power, The Science of Getting Rich (which you can download as a free e-books). Another thing I've always been doing are my vision boards or treasure maps and cutting out images of everything I want in life...some years ago I had pictures of computers as I didn't have one at all...uh, now I do.. On a small scale it has in many ways worked for me all my life, but now I'm going full steam ahead with it...you should see my stack of LOA books by Jack Canfield, Joe Vitale, etc, etc..I even watch a bit of The Secret DVD every night. And in many ways again, it has worked amazingly..okay I don't have my Jaguar car, or my dream home YET...working on it...but one thing it has seemed to open up the doors for me...I have for instance so many ideas for writing, that are literally shooting at my brains with fantastic ideas...Now..only one problem...I need more time in my life as I'm one of those people who needs sixty hours in a day...Do you think there's a way to put on a vision board more time??? LOL

If you can get more time put into the day, I'll owe you forever!!! I always feel like a day is only 6 hours long and like I have 48 hours worth of things I want to cram into it but only 30 minutes worth of energy, lol. The more I hear about your great-grandmother, the more I like her! I'll look into some of those books since you said I can get them free, I'm not a fan of the e-book even though I plan to write a few but free is free. As for the LOA, I'm new to it but I can see how it has worked in my life both in positive and negative ways. For me the challange is not just in having the positive attitude but in truly believing the positive thoughts and not getting so fustrated with my current situtations.

This 'law' is called a lot of different things. The overall concept is the same though. You get what you ask for, or at least seek. A great deal of it can amount to confidence too. You want success, start acting confident in gaining success. Truly believe in your impending success and while you work towards that goal it will steadily be achieved. Steadily believe you will find a good life mate, and as long as you are working towards that goal with confidence (not accepting the first thing to come along) You can find yourself that life mate. I definitely agree with this concept.

Yes I've seen it called many things in different places but the key concepts seem to all be the same. I think it does work no matter what your goal is as long as you follow through and believe in yourself.

Hi Gmakesmoney, and yes, I do believe in LOA, and I have seen "The Secret" and "What the BLEEP do we know", and have followed and am following different programs and most if not all of these use the LOA and more. And I also agree with TDonald that most do not mention the Action that should be taken in order to achieve what one desires in his/her life. As I said, I have worked different cources and programs, and have achieved some of my wishes and desires, but my biggest problem seems to be that each and every time that I start with it all goes fine, until in a month or two I start loosing momentum, and focus, and all goes downwards. Than I am up again on the next course, and this is the circle I am circling over and over again, and for years now. If there was a way to keep focused and motivated I am sure i could achieve absolutely everything that I wish to achieve.

Yes the action part is the key to making it all work. I agree with you that it can be hard to keep focused when so many different things are going on in our lives, it would be great to find a way to hang onto the focus.

Basically i m very strong beliver of it.. Its obvious that if u want something n just go for it n life will bring it to u more closer.. And yes, at same time if u dont go for that thing , it goes away from it... if u dont believe than best way is to experiment it...

Yes. I believe in the power of brain. Those intelligent people use only around 2% of the brain and that's really powerful. I think yes if you have a specific goal and believe in it, the determination of achieving it will follow, and then you work hard on it and voila the success will come. I have always believe in hand work to achieve something in life. If we don't believe in ourselves, who would believe in us? And if we don't believe we could be successful, then who will?

I agree, believing in a goal will help you to accomplish the hard work and reach that goal. Now if only the hard work didn't have to be so hard, we'd all be rich, lol. I also agree that we have to believe in ourselves because nobody else can do that for us.

Yes, I do believe in the Law of Attraction because I have seen it work consistenly throughout my life. Long before this book and movie came out my studies in metaphysics revealed this universal law of manifestation. 'Like attracts like' is a key principle in the law of attraction idea. We have all seen it within different areas of life..think about friendships. When people do not grow together...they grow apart. Those who stay together are usually staying within similar resonances. So yes...anything the mind can conceive and believe...it can acheive. I know this for sure!

I'm so glad that you've seen this law work in your own life. I'm going to research it a bit more and try and follow through with it in my own life.

You create your own reality according to your beliefs. Your creative energy can make your world. There are no limitaion to the "self", except those you believe in. On the downside, your beliefs could have limitations that can allow you to sabatoge your world and or destiny.
