Do you ever look hard at how our ancestors did things in order to find ideas on how to make your own, modern and fast paced life more pleasant, fun or productive? I spend a lot of time looking at what archaeology, anthropology and bushcraft can teach us about what was important in the past. Sure, we may have different ways of doing the same thing today, but it often amazed and reassures me just how similar our basic wants are compared to those from simpler older societies. What do you think?

My Pop was old-school... he told me about so many of what he called 'hobo tricks'... survival essentials he learned during the depression from the gentlemen who lived by the railroad tracks. They were good to him, replacing the father he had lost when he was three years old. Like: How to make drinking glasses with a string dipped in kerosene. What roadside vegetation was edible. The softest bed made of tree branches. Windproof tents and campfires. 100 uses for an oil drum! I have also confirmed many of these tricks and learned many more at pioneerthinking.com... I refer to them often for simple answers!

I agree wholeheartedly. We can learn a lot from the past & use that knowledge to help shape the future.
