We live in Austria and it was after lunch when my husband called me from work to tell me to turn the television on, as the WTC and the Pentagon had been attacked. The kids were watching television, so I asked them to tune into CNN and we all watched the events developing before our eyes. I was very nervous and crying by then and the children watched it all. I have wondered whether I did the right thing by letting them watch it, but have come to the conclusion that it was something we all have to accept, even if we dont like it. To do otherwise would be a kind of censorship and I dont like that, as I rather be open. A few days later I found a piece of paper where my 10 year old daughter had made a drawing of the WTC building burning, so it was obvious that she was affected by what she saw, just like I was. As much as one would like to, one just can't shield our children from events like terrorism, as it is all around us now.

I don't think we can protect our children too much, as they will not be prepared in the future, I think that fact that she drew the picture shows she has a sensitive soul, if people learn to feel another persons pain they will grow up better people i think.
