Yesterday I was thinking of getting an Italian software program and although we can order the Rosetta Stone, the price is a little high. The one I want was taken out of our Future Shop store, and although we do get Chinese, Japanese, French, etc. it seems that Italian is the forbidden language. I guess it is because Canada is left leaning, and is into diversity and oriental, but what is wrong with the Italians? Now the point I am getting is that I checked and it seems that software is one of the products not allowed to come into Canada from the States, yet they can import it to Australia, Austria, Chile, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, United Arab Emirates etc. There are a lot of other products that certain stores in the States cannot ship to Canada that ranks out with such countries known for their unstable governments. Now I ask you why is Canada not listed among such countries as Australia, Austria, etc. I mean did our government send out its welcome wagon to people of diverse backgrounds that now we are on the not shipped to lisT? I might have to go to the States to get the software I want. Did our government's policy turn the States against us and what can one do to reverse that policy?

Got the same problem in reverse. There is an Irish singer that I love to listen to on Canadian television and a French singing group that I love to hear on the radio. But the music stores tell me they don't get get anything from Canada. I think they want us to go to each other's countries and actually buy it or something.

I would not mind going to the States, but the trouble is I do not have that much American dollars and kept wondering whether when we do go to the States, if they would accept my Canadian visa credit card or whether they would say that they cannot sell the software to Canadians.

I don't know about all that. I know that in the Plattsburgh, NY area, my area, in an excellent year, 50% of most goods and services are bought by Canadians. In a bad year, less than 10% and many businesses go under or find ways to hang on until the situation changes.Canadian money is accepted here according to the exchange rate. Also there is one currency exchange place here. Most banks will exchange money from one country to another if you have an account with them. Not sure about visa Canada. If you know what places you will be going, you can call ahead. You will also need to call customs to find out what can be brought back and forth across the boarder. They may give you a website to check or send you a pamphlet. Below the Plattsburgh area, we have to be very careful, they've never even seen a Canadian penny and wonder what that "funny money" is. Sorry I'm not much more help. When I studied in Canada, I had to buy records and cassette tapes of French because I couldn't get any Canadian music in the states. I was allowed to bring that stuff back as long as it was less than a certain amount, over that, I would have to pay a duty. But that was in the 1980s. Do you have any friends that go to the states? Maybe they know the answers. Things keep changing. Take care.

My husband would not stop at any big stores until we came to North Dakota and we got there too early. I do have a US Canadian Dollar Account but not enough money in it to use. We went through Maine and they have some French Americans there, so it might be you have to go there to buy anything French.
