Agh..I suck. I forgot about Gravitation, another favorite yaoi anime of mine lol.

Gravitation was definitely awesome.

And I loved Revolutionary Girl Utena too! Especially because the plot itself was strangely put together and intellectually intriguing.
And among the yuri/shoujo ai genre, I liked Strawberry Panic..but only liked. It's not a favorite, favorite.

I love Utena, but I haven't seen that Strawberry Panic thing, though I have heard of it.

I've been really disappointed with some things in the yuri category too unfortunately.

Strawberry Panic is great in the romance department, but one has to be willing to put up with the ton of confusing drama in the story lol.
It's one of the better yuri animes which're set in all girl's schools anyways.

Strawberry Panic is pretty good, and yes you have to be a bit patient with the drama (still great though). And for me it gave an extra reason for future re-watching.

And if you still need ideas there's Maria-sama ga Miteru and Kannazuki no Miko

Wow, you have a lot of suggestions here. I can totally what you're getting about those series that people call yaoi that don't really have anything in them. I've been on so many websites and yaoi or yuri that are inferring so much, or claiming series that don't show anything... and I'm going "But I want action!!" *giggles*

I know! Though platonic shows are nice occasionally, I like to at least see some kissing or snuggling.
I mean SOMETHING romantic, or between the two of them...nothing doesn't go very far.

Loveless is a pretty good anime, though it's a bit weird plot-wise too..and they don't explain alot, it's visually enchanting, interesting. And there's some kisses, they're hugging, cuddles, it's awesome.
The main characters' ages vary widely though, so its not for anyone who's too iffy. Ritsuke's 12, though Soubi is college age..but it's totally sweet because Soubi promised to wait for Ritsuke to grow up some more.
Plus...cat-people and amnesiacs always get me lol.

Okane ga Nai or No Money! Has everything lol. But it's got alot darker plot, since the two main characters are Ayase (the one who's often the victim in this story) who was sold by his own family to the slave trade, and bought by a loan shark named Kanou...who actually cares quite a bit for Ayase.
So there's lots of drama, some abuse between the characters...since neither of them can change what they are.

Ayase is one of the most innocent and gentlest people one could think of, and Kanou is a criminal and can be quite fierce...but there's a side of him who wants to be something more.

I love the series, but haven't gotten to watch the whole thing unfortunately :(

It's sometimes frustrating to find a good anime of either yaoi or yuri genre, but I think if it were terribly easy to find them, it would take a little of the fun out of looking and searching everywhere for something good.

Another yaoi I'm aware of which really does have real action in it, is called "Papa to kiss in the dark"...again, it's very weird as it revolves around a romance between a father (even though they're NOT related by blood) and son...with occasional bits with the boy's male best friend.

It seems there is a bit of a problem with that: so much yaoi tending to involve abuse or be iffy on such things. I have found a lot of pretty messed-up stuff while looking for yaoi (for example, Fujimi Orchestra).

I'll have to check out the series you mentioned though. =P

I caught a bit of "Papa to Kiss in the Dark" on Youtube, and it was kinda disturbing. One I liked that I found just wandering around youtube was Sensitive Pornograph. Not much on plot, really, but kinda neat. There are two parts, completely unrelated, but both were interesting.

Eh, I keep getting disappointed in anime and manga because I'll see some shounen-ai beneath the surface and then never get to see it develop. I was reading Clamp's Legal Drug, and that got cancelled, essentially. *sighs*

I noticed how much yaoi is centered around iffy or abusive things...me being the sick mind I am though, I don't mind some of it. I mean I like the stories as long as its done tastfully. If it's done just to be done, then it's awful crap.

Aw, the best shows always get canceled it seems, I'll have to check it out despite its not getting finished though. A little frustration over a good story is good for me, since it motivates me to finish what stories I myself write.

Ah well, I wish you luck finding more shonen ai animes. Hopefully I can find somemore too.

You have a good point about the differences between such things being done just to be done and being done tastefully.

Oh, I loved Loveless by the way! I just watched it, a couple days ago, the whole thing through in one sitting! I was wishing there was more, and I've downloaded some of the manga as well now, but I'm not sure if there's more story there yet or not because I'm not that far in. Thanks for so much for the recommendation though... it was an amazing anime! =)

I haven't watching the No Money! one yet, but that's next on my list.

YAY, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Tis' quite a beautiful series, Loveless. I was told that there wasn't any more, but despite it not being very complete and with few explanations I liked it for what it was. Though...the manga itself might take the story further. I'm pretty sure it does. The anime didn't continue past one season I don't think.
Anyway, I hope you like No Money! for all that it is a story with VERY extreme contrasts and darkness. ^_^

Yes, Loveless is beautiful! I've already noticed some differences in the few volumes on manga I've read over the past few days of it, but I'm having problems finding more. So maybe it did just stop or something. Still, even imperfect as you said, it's lovely! =p

I haven't gotten around to No Money! yet. I only watch that kind of stuff after the kid is in bed, and after my husband is off to work typically. Otherwise he makes fun of my tastes. Plus today being a holiday, I have other things on my mind! =P

You confused me here because I didn't add a picture to the discussion, but I assume you mean the picture for the category.

I think yaoi is the one that I have a hard time explaining to people my interest in, since I'm not male and thus couldn't really participate. However, it's really not any different than guys thinking two girls together is hot.

I know a lot of girls online who are into yaoi or shonen-ai. In fact in a famous italian ff site pretty much ALL the Full Metal Alchemist fics are Edward/Roy, Edward/Al (?) or Ed/Other male, and the writers are female. This happens sometimes in Naruto, Death Note and Harry Potter fics too.
Maybe it's because you put two handsome boys of an anime and you don't have to "share them" with another female character xD. Hope it makes sense
