When you first learned to sew

I took one sewing class in junior high. I can sew simple things, all I need is a sewing machine. I have a few little projects to get done so I might have to ask a FRIEND for some help. How's the quilt coming.

I would love to be able to sew but I am usually not very good with my hands! Was it hard for you to teach yourself? It would be great if I could make my own clothes and things for the house, but I am really afraid they will be ugly and have no shape at all!

I took a class in jr high but I am learning for real now.

I taught myself after my mother died by making baby quilts. I had to read the manual to learn how to work the sewing machine. I know make quilts and Halloween costumes.

I learned to sew when I was around eight years old,and was playing with my cousin ...I still remember I had asked him to move the wheel n I was suppose to take care of the cloth....we enjoyed sewing (as we had observed my aunt using the machine before) but at the end I happen to injure my finger,we were too scared as we also broke the needle n we did not tell any one for hours about this incident.

I first learned to sew in 4-H when I was about 8. My mother was an avid sewer and made all of her own clothes. She sewed professionally for a design house when she was younger, so I learned a lot of good tips and tricks from her over the years. I also had 2 years of sewing in high school in home ec. classes. I'm 57, so I've been sewing for lots of years. I make my own curtains, drapes and all, and I've learned a lot about altering clothes over the years. I'd like to try and make a quilt this year, the only quilting I've done is trapunto quilting. (Trapunto is where you take a design, put a backing on it, stitch out detailed outlines, and then stuff the outlining with padding to make it stand out. It makes some beautiful embellishments on the hem of a skirt, or a pillow top, etc. For pillows, I do a large detailed design, and often sell them for a good price.) Isn't sewing fun!!

I taught myself some of the easier things to sew but I also had a class when I was in junior high. We made baby blankets and pillows. I inherited my grandmother's sewing machine when she passed away. She was making quilts for all of her grandchildren's first babies. She got to finish mine and my sister but not any of the others. I have to finish them to give to my cousins. I am getting ready to try curtains and couch covers.

I was self-taught, can't remember when I first tried to sew. It was probably attaching a button or I may have been trying to make something. I know my thumb got very sore because I kept missing.

I took a class in high school. I fought with that machine the whole class. I was never so glad to see that class end.
