Do you think the United Kingdom should stop being called the United Kingdom?

(For those of you who are unsure, the United Kindom or Great Britain as some people like to call it consists of: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales). The thing is, the United Kingdom stopped being so united when Scotland got its own parliament, so what do you think? United Kingdom? Or just Great Britain, or even just Britain (depending on whether you think it's great or not).

Not sure where I stand on this one, I was born and raised in the UK, rarely do we refer to it with its full form of United Kingdom. I don't know that I would even call it "Great" Britain as there really isn't much great about it these days! I guess it could be called "Come here seeking asylum and you'll get free housing for the rest of your lives depriving those who work their arses off and pay taxes their whole lives from getting their due pensions!" LOL Sorry to be so mean but that's how many people see it these days...

Now tell me what you really think. ;) Thank you, I do agree with you, it's not that great any more and yes I'm getting fed up with asylum seekers too, especially as one of my sisters has been waiting for a council house for over six months and has still got nowhere.

Maybe we should call it the Divided Queendom, after all we aren't united anymore and we haven't had a king for a while. Or maybe we should just call it the next American state or the bit of Europe that's not attached and the Europeans want to rule.

Well, I would be happy to just have seperate countries of England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland. I'm English, not British or UK-ish. We're hardly united as you say so it makes no sense to call it the United Kingdom although I'm sure there are people who would argue by saying we are united in some way or another. The only way I can see is that we are physically connected (except for N.I.) and also that Wales and Scotland don't have parliament's entirely seperate from England. But saying that, Scotland want to devolve from England and become completely independant and Wales, as far as I know, are mostly indifferent. I personally don't mind whether it's called the UK or whatever but I do wish people would refer to each constituent country as a country and to each constituent nationality independantly because I find the phrase Brit offensive.

I think it should be left the United Kingdom .Just like the United States,we all have our own little sub groverments but are all still part of the larger whole. It just wouldn't feel or sound right to change it.;-)

I'm with you on this one. The UK was pretty over centralised and a bit more devoltion has helped create a culture of even more debate. I mean until you get the Home Unions deciding that they don't want to be part of the same grouping, I don't think you should change the name. - As you've rightly pointed out, there are loads of little governments in the USA but nobody is suggesting that we call it anything other than the UNITED States of America
