Parents to be tried in death of infant son   

Unfortunately, this is something of a common practice. I know of several parents who give Benadryl to their children every night so that they will sleep through the night. They don't seem to understand that THIS is what could happen at any given time. This little guy should have had a long, happy life.

The poor little baby! You do not give drugs to a baby unless a doctor tells you to. I hope the courts give them the maximum. The drugs built up in the baby's system until he died.

Look I do not have a medical background and even I would not go on the internet and give a baby anything that is potentially dangerous. When you have a baby, you expect the baby to be fussy, cry a lot, especially if you do have a medical background and there are thousands of couples who cannot have children of them own. This makes me sad!!

Thats horrible. I had someone make a comment like that to me once. He's fairly young and has no kids and was completely joking. But it irritated me. I told him I couldn't go to a late night training because there was no one to watch my daughter. He told me to give her half a prozac and that would knock her out. I told him he shouldn't even joke about stuff like that. I think every parent would admit that when their kids are sick and screaming or won't quiet down, its nice when their medicine kicks in and they quiet down...but I would never give it to them unless they were really sick. I can't believe parents would do that purposely.

Why do people do things like that knowing that it is harmful. I do know that we had a daycare here that was shut down for doing the same thing. It is sad that they felt they needed to do this and in return no longer have a son. They really should have known better.

Something like that happened out here. A couple in the medical profession forgot their baby in the car. She passed away...

Poor babies...

This is so sad and it really hit close to home-so many friends of mine give their children some type of medicine to make them drowsy and i think it is just so sad. I have 4 children and in all the time of being a parent i have never just given any of my babies medicine. Hell i get scared when the doctor gives them a presciption because i dont know the effects it could cause. Its sad for this baby and i also hope that they get the punishment they deserve.

This is just horrible! I dont see how you could even think about doing that to your own flesh and blood. They should get more then 15 years in prison. They should get life. If they were stressed because of him being fussy they should have called the grandparents or someone else. They could have gotten away for a while to release the stress. I would never give my baby drugs to make him sleep.

No self-respecting parents would ever do such a thing, Lifez! I shudder when I think of how horribly infants and children are being abused these days. They are treated as nothing more than property.

This is tragic. It seems like these people would know better. People like this should not have kids. They were mainly doing this so they could get some rest. They were very selfish in this respect and it is a shame that the baby wasn't removed from their home earlier. I just don't have any sympathy for the parents.

Wow, this is UNBELIEVABLE. I don't give medicine unless they're sick. To do it otherwise is just plain drug abuse and child abuse. Don't they know children CAN fall asleep on their own? Just keep them busy and awake throughout the day.....that simple...
