| | 2. cefaz_21 (2065) | 11 months ago | I don't think I remember the dircetor as well..sorry but here's my top three; 1. 300 - I can watch it again and again and again. 2. MAN OF HONOR- very inspiring eh 3. TITANIC- though am not a big fan of jack and rose but the movie it self is amazing.
| |
| |
acmepride (652) | 11 months ago | I fully agree that 300 is really worth watching n number of times. Man of Honor is likewise a very inspiring movie, essentially serving as a testament to the immense strength and willpower of the human spirit. As to Titanic, I share your feeling about the characters, but the movie is indeed amazing, if only because it was a film about true love. Happy myLotting and more power!;)

AmbiePam (10030) | 11 months ago | Titanic was directed by James Cameron I think. Can you believe I have never seen that movie? I think of all the real people who died when I think of that movie.
| |
acmepride (652) | 10 months ago | That's understandable, Ambiepam. After all, it would truly be hard for you to enjoy such a widely renowned film, especially if you think of the tragedy it has caused. Happy myLotting and thanks for your honest comment!;)

| | 3. AmbiePam (10030) | 11 months ago | OK, I thought hard about this, and these are the ones I came up with: 1. While You Were Sleeping (1995) a comedy starring Sandra Bullock that was directed by Jon Turteltaub - It is not a simple comedic formula that we see a lot of. It was an original plot, and was so good that I have watched it numerous times over the years. 2. Last of the Mohicans (1992) a historical drama starring Daniel Day-Lewis and directed by Michael Mann - It just swept me away, so much so that I bought the movie. 3. The Matrix (1999) I'm sure lots of people have seen this, but I liked this original the best. Starring Keanu Reeves, it was directed by brothers Larry and Andy Wachowski.

acmepride (652) | 10 months ago | At the onset, I would like to commend you because you really took the time to think hard of your list, AmbiePam.;) Anyway, among your top 3 list, I'm only fortunate to have had the opportunity to watch the last one. While You Were Sleeping really seems very interesting and, given that you've "watched it numerous times over the years," I would most certainly try to find a copy of it so I could view it myself. Just a question, though, is it a love story? Last of the Mohicans likewise seems to be equally interesting, especially since, as you've clearly said, "It just swept me away, so much so that I bought the movie." Thanks to your post, I would try to find a copy of this movie as well, if only to experience what you've experienced when you watched this historical drama. Happy myLotting and thanks for your insightful post!(",)

AmbiePam (10030) | 10 months ago | While You Were Sleeping is essentially a love story I guess, but it is so funny that I don't even think of it that way. It's rated PG, and a very clean movie too, so I don't feel like my brain will rot if I watch it, LOL. You know what I mean?
| |
acmepride (652) | 10 months ago | Absolutely, AmbiePam. I'll try to get a copy of it because I really need a good laugh these days. Thanks for giving me quite a clear idea of what While You Were Sleeping is basically about. Happy myLotting!;)

| | 5. twilight_75 (282) | 10 months ago | 1-Shawshank redemption- Steven speilberg?? 2-American history x-have no clue, sorry 3-Gone with the wind-again no idea, but do know that margaret mitchell wrote it. My mind went blank trying to think of some of the best films I've seen, this was a tough one. Funny enough, i'm a complete horror buff but not one sprang to mind as one of the best films i've seen.
| |
| |
acmepride (652) | 10 months ago | This is truly an incredible list, twilight_75! Shawshank Redemption is indeed a great inspirational film, which to be honest, really moved me. Oddly, though, whenever I watch Shawshank Redemption, I always think of The Count of Montecristo. If I were to guess, though, perhaps I tend to think of the latter because it has some similarities (in regard a man's quest for retribution or justice, for instance) with the former. I could not remember if I have already watched American History X, however, but is this a movie that has something to do with Nazism, which stars Edward Norton? If it is, then I believe I've seen it already. In regard Gone with the Wind, though, I must admit that I haven't had the chance to view it yet. Before I try to find a copy to watch, to which genre does it belong? I hope soon enough you could recall the horror films you've watched, which you could hopefully recommend. Thanks a lot for your very good post and Happy myLotting!;)
| |
twilight_75 (282) | 10 months ago | It is Edward Norton. Gone with the wind was either the first film in technecolour or one of the first. I love scarlett O'hare a beautiful selfish but incredible strong woman. Be warned if you do decide to watch it, it's a whole 4 hours long!
| |
acmepride (652) | 10 months ago | Scarlett O'hare, to my mind, seems to possess the same qualities of Dominique Francon or Dagny Taggart (Ayn Rand's female characters in her books--The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, respectively). Anyway, if Gone with the Wind is indeed the first film in "technecolour" and Scarlett O'hare is truly a powerfully attractive character to watch, I would not mind viewing it, even if it's 4 hours long. Thanks a lot for your very relevant comment, twilight_75!;)

| |
| |
acmepride (652) | 10 months ago | I'm quite familiar with Saving Private Ryan, one of the best war films, to be sure, and 50 First Dates, a romantic flick, if I'm not mistaken. Frankly, though, this is the first time I came across Black. To somehow give me an idea of what exactly is this intriguing movie about, would you be so kind to tell me whether it's a horror, comedy, drama, action, suspense, or fantasy film? Thanks a lot and Happy myLotting, drupadmathur!;)

| | 7. fab315 (671) | 10 months ago | Hello! Only 3? ayy...this is hard...let me think....hmmmm...but I dunno who the directors are...I haven't got a clue at all. Everytime I watch a movie I don't really think who's the director is. Anyway here are my top 3 movies: 1. Finding Nemo - animation movie by walt disney picture. My fave movie when I was pregnant with my lil girl and actually got her nickname from that movie.*hehe* 2. Lord of the Ring (Trilogy) - The movie was amazing. Love Orlando Bloom as Legolas. I can watch it again, again, again 3. 50 First Date - I love all the songs in the soundtrack, I listen to it almost everyday in the office. ciao! c",)

acmepride (652) | 10 months ago | You have a very nice list, fab315!;) Yeah, Finding Nemo is indeed a fascinating animation with a good moral. No wonder you nicknamed your lil girl as such. Lord of the Rings, I feel, is a trilogy that is really worth watching, given its amazing special effects and equally amazing cast of characters. 5O First Dates is obviously a delight to watch, too, and its soundtrack only heightens your overall pleasurable viewing experience. Thanks for your much appreciated contribution in further enriching this discussion! Happy myLotting! (",)

| | 8. mamasan34 (4104) | 10 months ago | Gone With The Wind - Victor Fleming The Notebook - Nick Cassevettes Tombstone - George Cosmatos I could watch these movies thousands of times. I think I know most of the words to Tombstone. I have watched it so many times over the years. I have several others that I could add to this list. I love Clint Eastwoods Heart Break Ridge. That is a great film as well.

acmepride (652) | 10 months ago | The movies included in your top 3 list really seem to be very good ones, considering that you could "watch these movies thousands of times." However, to be honest, I haven't watched such films yet. I've watched Clint Eastwood's films like Dirty Harry, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, Million Dollar Baby, among others, but I haven't watched Heart Break Ridge yet. If you were to classify the 4 movies you've enumerated, to what genre would each of them belong? Thanks a lot for your much valued post and Happy myLotting, mamasan34!;)

| | 9. overdosed (149) | 10 months ago | I watch movies for the sheer entertainment. So you'll not find The Godfather nor The Shawshank Redemption here (Yes, they are good movies, hands down. But I prefer to be entertained.) I'll give you my top 3 then others for consideration, hehehe: 1. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - Peter Jackson - I actually love the whole trilogy. I don't know what to pick among the three 'cuz each have its own charm. LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring has this story-book look and LOTR: The Two Towers has the most interesting plot. I've watched all flicks in the Extended DVD (which was worth it - though butt aching), LOTR: Return of the King wins in overall effects and action. 2. The Matrix - Wachowski Brothers - The mother of all gravity defying effects. In its heyday it was ground-breaking. It generated a fashion and life style cult,(black clothes, trench coats in the middle of summer - hehehe). Tech geeks started to look cool and cute (hahaha). But it's more than that, I like the story. Though the next two flicks were okay (well, The Matrix: Revolutions was a disappointment), this one can stand alone even without them. 3. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl - Gore Verbinski - This one started it all. I fell in love with this movie the first time it came out 'til the very end of the series (to hell with the critics). It's a fun movie to watch when you're holed up in the house on a stormy day and you want to get out but you can't (just pray the electricity doesn't get cut by flying roofs). For consideration: Amelie by Jean Piere Jeunet The Bourne Ultimatum by Paul Greengrass --> The best among the three. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind by Michel Gondry --> A tad bit depressing, but then the story is good. The Usual Suspects by Bryan Singer - One of the best Kevin Spacey movies) The Mummy by Stephen Sommers Dogma by Kevin Smith --> One of the ridiculous yet smart, not-to-be-taken-seriously-funny movies that came out. The characters are one of a kind. Sin City by Frank Miller/Robert Rodriguez - For the ART of making this film alone, it is one heck of a flick. Out of Sight by Steven Soderbergh Constantine by Francis Lawrence Good Will Hunting by Gus Van Sant The Departed by Martin Scorsese Lucky Number Slevin by Paul McGuigan .... I could go on and on. Better stop here.:-)

acmepride (652) | 10 months ago | Good thing you stopped already, overdosed. lol... Your top 3 are undeniably entertaining films, but your excellent review of each is definitely all the more entertaining. Among all your excellent recommended movies, I have yet to watch Amelie, Dogma, and Out of Sight. Before I try to get copies of these great movies, though, could you kindly categorize each one of them, if possible? Thanks a lot for your amazingly informative post! Happy myLotting!;)
| |
overdosed (149) | 10 months ago | Here is my "short" description of the said flicks: Amelie - It's a French movie, so expect to read subtitles while watching it. My friends who forced me to watch it - that time I was against all chick flicks. It's a romantic-comedy about a girl who was raised by dysfunctionally neurotic parents and grew up to be a quirky semi-loner. One day, after anonymously returning old mementos to a complete stranger, she decides to be a nameless do-gooder. Her adventures starts and leads to a possible romance in the end. The character of Amelie is very amusing to watch. In Filipino terms, she could be described as "praning." Her brain is riding in an alien spaceship, hence her plots and schemes were pretty entertaining and amusing to watch. The movie is visually beautiful (the digital grading dept. did a great job) - the colors are spectacular like a painting. She reminds of me the lead character in "Sassy Girl," but she has more finesse and class. Dogma - This is movie was made by the same guy who made "Clerks," "Mallrats," "Chasing Amy," and "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back." I am mentioning this because certain characters and actors in all those movies can be seen in "Dogma" too. The films mentioned above border on the stupid and ridiculous (although "Chasing Amy" offers a little bit of 'something'). The story starts with two fallen angels Loki (Matt Damon) and Bartleby (Ben Affleck), who were kicked out and sentenced to spend time on Earth (particularly Wisconsin) 'til the end of existence. One day somebody sends them a flyer about a church in New Jersey having its centennial and granting anybody who walks through their doors absolute pardon from all sins. This gave them an idea on how to get back to heaven. Unknowingly though, their plan was discovered by some powers in heaven. Hence, a liquidation squad was sent to stop them. This included the last scion, dead and living prophets, other angels etc. It is a ridiculously funny movie. The dialogue can be really witty. This movie caused quite a stir because of the supposedly anti-Catholic suggestions. But then, I don't see anything to suggest that. I don't know where to categorize this movie - probably Dark Comedy. My favorite scene in the flick is when Loki and Bartleby went into murder spree in an office boardroom of idolaters. They were allegedly purging the Earth in the name of God. Out of Sight - Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney seem to work on a lot of projects together. I think this movie is one of their first. It also stars Jennifer Lopez, Ving Rhames, Steve Zahn, Dennis Farina, and Don Cheadle. Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Keaton also appear in small roles in this movie. Story is about a bank robber (Clooney) who busts out of jail. While escaping, an FBI agent (Lopez) catches him and his outside accomplice (Rhames). Clooney and Lopez ends up at the trunk of the getaway vehicle and ends up having a conversation. They "discover" a mutual attraction for each other. This goes on until the end, Lopez has to choose what to do with the situation. It's a weird romantic flick. The dialogue in the movie is funny and witty. I enjoyed watching this flick because it's like watching pre-Ocean's 11. It has a smart feel to it. And it's a sort of romance flick without requiring you to leave your brain at the baggage counter. Also, J.Lo's character - Karen Cisco - kicks butt.

I haven't had the chance to watch it yet, but many people tell me that it's really a good emotionally charged film. Thanks for your greatly valued contribution and Happy myLotting!;)
