Has anyone done winter camping? Would you recommend it or was it just too cold. I'm trying to come with ideas for things to do outdoors this winter instead of staying in the house.

I love it best- I love the cool crisp nights- craft shows- raking leaves and jumping into them with my daughter- also stuffing pumpkin bags with leaves. I love the first snow fall- it's so pretty- and also we spend hours and hours outside- sledding, tubing, making snow angels.

wow, no I have never gone camping in the winter. It would be way too cold here in Manitoba. It gets down to 40 below celcius. You would never survive that kind of weather. But I have gone ice fishing. That was a lot of fun, but we only go on days that are nice, not so cold. We set up a tent around the hole in the ice so that we are out of the wind. It's not so cold that way. You might want to try your hand at ice fishing before you try the camping thing. Then if you don't mind the cold, you could try camping on the nicer days.

It's been a long time since I've done it, but it was SO fun! If you go in the snow as I did, you will need your thermals for sure! And the weather reports - forget 'em. I went in June one year here in sunny Ca. Winter storms long gone. Forecast was for mild temps. and sunny days all week. But the first night, the clouds rolled in and a storm developed. First rain, the hail, then sleet. By morning, we had cornball snow blowing at us at about 65 mph. Yep. Full blizzard. Freak storm for sure, but I just thought you should know to be prepared for it no matter what the weathercast is. BUT it still was fun! So, go ahead! Just be warm. No fun in shivering.
