Autumn Depression? |
| |
| Hello all my MyLot friends! How are you doing during these cold and grey autumn days? How your life is different from the one during hot summer? Mine is terrible, I can't stand the cold and the constant rain makes me feel really depressed. Do you have any ideas how to overcome the autumn depression? | | | | | |

| | I miss the flowers and vegetables and fruits of my garden is all. I now have to prune and or trim things then replant and or move flowers etc around is all. It's not a bad chore but not as fun as seeing them growing. I am not depressed just lost as far as discussions and photos that I usually do here. HAHAHA! I don't mind the cold. Saturday it was a record setting 87 degrees and today (Wed) we will be lucky to hit 50 for a high. Already have wind chills being stated also. Ugghh! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~ | | | | | | |

| | Here in India , we don't have autumn, the three seasons are summer, winter and rainy. So no rain during winter, its only cold, so not much problem. We spend free time in blankets, and eating spicy food, which cannot be tasted in summer due to that tremendous heat. | | | | | | |

| | Even I wish I knew this one... It's been so cold and none stop raining here it is depressing... I am not exactly sure how to really over come this either.. Though I wish I knew.. A bit of Sun shine and warmth would be great that's for sure... The Summer was really hot here like 95+ and than the temps drop in a heart beat to 40+ Yuck that's all I have to say! Hopefully someone will have a suggestion on how to overcome this! | | | | | | |

| | I think so too, like a weeks vacation somewhere warmer and than were able to enjoy the warmth of the sun and actually be able to move around with out having to get up and where you last sat gets instantly cold... The thought is just to nice...lol | | | |

| | I do love the summer too but I don't hit my seasonal depression until deep winter and I feel like a shut in. For the fall I dress up warm and go for walks to look at the fall foliage which is so beautiful, it makes me feel less depressed about knowing the dreaded winter is coming. Vicki | | | | | | |

| | well, I somehow love winter more than autumn, don't really know why. Maybe because of the rain autumn is really getting on my nerves. In winter I love when it snowing, it is really a magical action. | | | |

| | Bundle up and take a walk outside and get some fresh air! I love autumn,so I can't relate to being depressed this time of year. The crisp air, the crunchy leaves, the bright colors of trees changing... I LOVE it!! I get to wear turtlenecks and scarves and fun clothes like that. Winter, now that's where I can get bummed out, but not really depressed, just cabin fever. If someone is feeling depressed this time of year, as the days get shorter... you might see a doctor to see if you suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder - where the loss of sunlight actually causes you to become depressed. There are therapies you can take to help you get through the short days without feeling so down. | | | | | | |

| | Reading other comments it seems this is all a matter of where one lives! After a very dark, cold, snowy winter I packed up and moved far away from the geography of winter as we know it long, long ago. However, I have never lived anywhere that autumn is not a beautiful time of year, so what you are describing would be winter and early spring where we used to live. Now we live in the desert where the sun comes out, I think, 97% of the time and we start to wonder if we'll ever get tired of it being nice out almost every day....not! But we used to live near the northern California coast and there is could stay grey and damp for months on end. There, to get a little sunshine into our diet and into our lives, I grew sunflower sprouts and ate them all winter long. Sprouts are packed with B-complex vitamins and these are the nutrients that ward off depression. I also bought a special lamp for the kitchen, called the Happy Lamp by Verilux. It gives light in the same spectrum of the sun, so like a moth, I drew near it! I put it in the kitchen and it must have worked, because I would go into the kitchen to get near that light and end up wanting to stay and do housework. Good luck! | | | | | | |

| | Don't look outside unless you have to, get energy-efficient light bulbs and turn them on during the day, make soup or cookies so the house smells good (potpourri also works here!), find a very involving hobby or some good books to keep your focus indoors. I never get depressed in winter... its the only time my body doesn't hurt, for some reason! Take care, and feel better! | | | | | | |
