Wet markets to make a comeback
------------------------------
Residents also saw the need for wet markets.
Making a comeback among Singaporeans, wet markets were cited in the report as an unofficial 'social hub' of the neighbourhood.
The Forum noted that these heartland icons will however need to be commerically viable on their own and will be built by commerical operators.
In response, the HDB will pilot a standalone, naturally-ventilated wet market-and-hawker centre, to be built and run by a private operator in Sengkang Town Centre.

woo~Hoo~~~!
I wonder how long it will take before they build it.
Question is how big will it be?
Where will the wet market be?
When will it be built?
So far no announcements in Seng Kang leh.

rumours has it that it'll be at the empty space opposite the compass heights. rather central location and within walking distance from most blocks i'd say. just hope the price won't be sky high since it's ran by a private operator. the food centre will be a nice touch. can imagine the kopitiam bleeding after everyone flock to the food centre. :p

now that you mentioned it, i realised that the hdb branch office is at rivervale. then the town council is at compassvale. but anchorvale there got nothing. could be the proximity to punggol road which leads to punggol or out town that attracts the amenities? hopefully there'll eventually be a wet market for each of the vales. not forgetting one each of food centres too. that'll make SK a more inhibitable place.

Precisely what I mean! Everything is not properly spread out here. There is already a very nice market in Rivervale and they are still going to build one more wet market right across it! And within walking distance of each other some more!
This is frustrating!
LRT for the east loop has only 5 stations but there are trains running in both directions!
West loop has 8 stations with 5 running and there is only one train in one direction running. To top it off, they make it more confusing by making the darn direction change after certain hours.
They removed the Seletar market saying it is too old. Then build one freaking one near to where the existing one is.
Sigh~~~
