1. deebomb (9001) | 3 years ago | It's possible he has a weak bladder may you should have him checked by a Dr. to see. Especially since your getting him up in the night. Do you stop the drinks long before bed time so he can have an empty bladder before he goes to bed?

kara5287 (178) | 3 years ago | i have been ending the drinks at 8 and he goes to bed at 930. i was thinking about moving the time up to 6. and only letting him have a little between 6 and 8 and nothing more after 8.

The answer is to stopo fretting! I have had four children, only one of them never wet the bed. One was completely dry by age five. Another was somewhat older and one was still wetting the bed at age 13! it is more common than most people think - just that parents don't like to admit it! The time to worry is if they are 16 and still wetting the bed! All my kids are fine now. i know it is a lot of hard work but as they get older they can help. THe one i had who was still wetting at 13, genuinely didn't know he was doing it until the wetness woke him up. He would get up and pull off the sheet and get another out of the cupboard himself in the night. it was a lot of hard work - all that washing, butabsolutely nothingn worked and i just thought to myself this can't possibly go on forever! remember no one is properly physicaly grown up in their body until past puberty and everyone develops at different rates so it IS still possible not to have full bladder control even up to teenage.
Please stop worryiing about it.

3. marciaj (804) | 3 years ago | It is pretty common to still wet at night at age 4, and older. Waking him up doesn't help him learn to wake himself up. Instead, I would just make sure he knows it is alright, and you are not mad at him for doing it. Have him get himself washed up and changed, and help change the bed sheets, but not as a punishment, just because it is his body, he needs to be responsible for it.
If he is going to have a sleep over you could get him the overnight pants for older kids so he is not embarassed, or want to skip it for fear of wetting. Other than that, mention it to his doctor at his next check up, because sometimes there is a medical reason for it. Most of all try to take it easy on him, it's not his fault. You getting upset or frustrated could make him anxious about it and make the problem worse.

4. wmaharper (1580) | 3 years ago | I think for some children it does take longer. i would stop all his fluid intake (maybe allow a small amount of water) after 6:30-7:00. Also, if he has any caffienated drinks, I would limit those as they act as a diaretic.. I would stop waking him as well. Allow him the chance to wake himself, or sleep through. We just started putting my son (just turned three) in underwear at night, he's only had a few accidents (maybe 2 over the past 2 months) so I know he was def. ready. We don't allow him to drink anything past 7:00, and his bed time is 8:00. BUt if an hour isn't enough time for your son (and it's not if he's waking up wet) then I would cut off the drinks a little earlier, and see if it helps. Also, I make my son go to the bathroom an hour before bed, and then right before bed as well, to get every last drop out of him that i can. (: Hope it helps, I would encourage you to have him help clean up when he has an accident. Of course you don't want to punish or make him feel badly for having accidents, but if he begins to have to deal with the consequences of wetting his bed, he very well may wake up to pee, instead of peeing in his bed. It also may just come down tohim not being ready yet. Every child is different, and what one can do, another may not be ready for yet.. so just give it time. good luck! I know how frustrating it can be at times.

| 5. rosebudh (29) | 3 years ago | Is he wetting it because he has a problem? Is he sleeping too soundly? I have a 4 yr/old and 6 yr/old that still wet the bed now and then. I think there deal is that they sleep too soundly and don't wake up until it is too late.

| 6. tomiak (32) | 3 years ago | not a good tip here but i think it will help. what you should is accomodate him in your bedroom so that you would monitor his reactions.first time you wont be accurate in timing him but as time goes on you will soon understand him so that you will bring him to the bathroom. this way will keep him dry every morning.

7. tina12679 (914) | 3 years ago | My 4 year old still has accidents too, not every single night but occasionaly and it seems that when the accidents start then it goes on for a few nights and gets very frustrating, alot of laundry after a week of bedwetting, but I notice that when she doesnt drink after 7 she seems to better and her bedtime is 9. Its sooo possible that when you are taking your son to the potty or he is going himself before bed that he isnt getting all the pee out either. I try to moniter when mine goes and if she seems to just get on the pot and off in a hurry or not. Good luck to you.
