| |
| Do you believe it's OK to use a shock collar on a dog? If so, under what circumstances? | | | | | |

| | I think it's okay to use during training, but for every day use, I wouldn't do it. They can be cruel. Turn the shocker down as low as it goes. My big dumb lab would get shocked to death if I put one on him. He'd never learn. | | | | | | |

| | Actually, in my experience, sometimes dumb dogs are the best learners (not with shock collars, just overall). They may take a bit longer to learn something but once they have it, they stick with it. But don't shock him, just in case ;) | | | |

| | NO!!! There are plenty of effective ways to train a dog. If you have to use a shock collar you shouldnt own a dog! I mean really how would you feel if someone put one on you?? Im sorry but people just dont know how to take care of animals. To many of them end up abandoned, tied up, neglected, dead. Its sad. If your dog is that bad to need a shock collar then you should give him up. Its not fair to the animal to be punished for you not knowing how to care for them and train them! | | | | | | |

| | "Its sad. If your dog is that bad to need a shock collar then you should give him up. " So I should have given up on my lab? No, I didn't use a shock collar on him, but he needed one. For everyone that uses a shock collar and a well-behaved dog comes out of it, that is one less horribly behaved dog in a shelter that will be put down because of behavior issue. | | | |

| | No I don't think it's okay to use shock collars under any circumstances. There are much better and nicer ways to train a dog that work just as good if not even better and will not result in a fearful dog. | | | | | | |

| | Just to play devil's advocate, what makes shock collars so much worse than any other physical correction-based training method? I've seen/heard of people hanging dogs up by their choke chains and such. How is using electricity any worse? | | | |

| | All physical correction-based methods are equally bad as shock collars. IMO anyone who has to turn to such pathetic methods to train a dog, or any other animal for that matter, shouldn't be allowed to have pets at all. | | | |

| | no never. I would not even consider this for training methods. It seems kinda cruel. THere are so many methods to train your dog. this one seems unreasonable to me. Alot of people say their pets are like their kids, well one who never potty train there kid this way, lol. | | | | | | |

| | As an aspiring dog trainer I personally do not like that method. I hope I'll never ever have to use it in a training class. I know in school we will learn to use them however, which upsets me, but they teach us every method of training in case we ever need it. But personally no, I think it is creul. | | | | | | |
