Sequels Better Than The Originals?  | |  It was just a thought I had responding to another discussion. In movies, series, gaming, ever notice instances where the sequels are just better than the first one? I know its not always the case, I've seen epic media and their sequels never come close to what the original was (The Matrix series for example). But from this, I've seen plenty of games, movies, and other media where the sequel is just so much better than the first. (Samples: Megaman 2, Ninja Gaiden 2, Street Fighter 2 and so forth).
So what are your thoughts on this. Do you have an examples you'd like to share for discussion or sequels you'd recommend? And thanks in advance for dropping by. I have other things going on, but I wanted to put this one out there since it was instant. Happy posting!

Sometimes writers use up all their "creative ideas" in the original and end up making a worse sequel in an attempt to "milk the cash cow."
Gundam SEED was better than Gundam SEED Destiny. Lord of the Rings I was better than Lord of the Rings II (1 giant battle.)
Though I agree many times sequels are better than the originals too.

As for my example of a sequel better than an original, the first one that came to mind was Megaman 2. Don't get me wrong. Megaman 1 was epic. But 2 had everything and beyond. Even had some pretty good stages and music.
D, at least I'm not going to throw tomatoes or eggs. Everyone has a preference:)

As sad as this is, the only other comparison is Sherk, but I wasn't disappointed in story line, I just thought the sequels were lacking in time frame. They could have been longer. Sorry, I still have little kids ya know!;-) | |

The plot is further developed, better graphics the second time around, more to do and better ways of going about doing it, and so on. My husband has gotten me into level of thinking. I am crazy obessesed with the Dynasty Warriors series. I have all the games and I didn't actually get the older ones until after I had the new ones. My hubby told me I wouldn't like the old ones after playing the new ones, but I was sassy and wanted them anyway. They are terrible. Graphics suck, voices suck, and gameplay in general suck. I can associate other series like that too, especially with fighting games. As far as movies go, it depends for me. I'm not to into the sequels of most movies because it feels like it's being drug out, you know? Like, I like the Pirates movies, but the first one is still my favotie. The Shrek movies have gone on too long. They have tried too hard to keep thise tongue in cheek and it's coming off as trying too hard. I dunno. Like I said, it really depends, but for games I'll take the sequels and for movies, well, we'll see.:P

With the games its also the graphics (for the graphics noobs). I mean talk to some of the Final Fantasy fan people, you mention final fantasy 1, 4 or 6 to them they look at you as if you are crazy. They also say "aw, but the graphics on that sucked." Sigh... They were great games I say. Minus FF2 naturally. -_-
