This is something I had not heard of before. The newest use for old worn out denim is to insulate homes. They are doing this where people were a victim of Katrina. I would like to know more about using denim for insulation. Any help here? They said 5000 pieces were collected and that is about enough to insulate ten homes. Do you use old denim? What do you think of this charitable effort?

Denim is made of cotton, so why not. I think that we should recycle everything possible. Maybe some day we will build houses made of old clothes covered with old computer parts.
Anyway, helping others is always good; I always donate my old clothes to church...

I do try to make sure that anything I have that us usable gets passed on to someone who needs it. Along with your old computer parts, I would like to see us use up old appliances. We could do a lot toward saving the environment if we would just reuse.

Response 4 has a link, but basically it is processed into cubes and is highly fire resistant. I may have to do a related discussion about this. It is interesting to me, as I love to reuse.

You know, I think I did hear about this before, but haven't heard anything in a while. I think it's a great idea for doing something with worn out jeans that would otherwise be thrown away...
I'm like another poster though that is saving jeans to make a rag quilt. I can't wait till I have enough!

I have never heard of this idea, but it sounds very practical & an excellent use of resources & recycling. Provided of course that the demin is not highly flammable. I don't think it is.
I wonder how effective it is?

This sounds like and excellent idea. I also have not heard about it but it seems that they could set up recycle centers for them as well as plastics and cans. I think there are probably a lot of things that we toss out each day without a thought that could be put to use to help others. Maybe this will be the start of people trying to think of things.
