| |  As a matter of fact, on October 12 1492 Christopher Columbus discovered "the Americas" (the whole continent) not only the United States of America. That day he landed on a little island of the Caribbean Sea (Guanahaní). Later he landed on the Hispaniola Island that today comprises the Dominican Republic and Haití.
Everybody goes on celebrating that day, even when now it's known that America was visited before for other peoples, like the vikings and perhaps the basques and the chinese.

| |  I'm not sure if India was founded.
But India was earlier larger than the present India...and it was divided into India and Pakistan on 15th August,1947. And we celebrate 15th of August as our Independance Day since we got independance from the British on that particular day.
